Because I don't think that Sonic team will know of this hack and search for it. I doubt the creators of Sonic care about this marvel, but they have been completely owned.
You know what would be funny?
Remember that article snippet that BMF posted about Naka and the prototype? Assuming it's validity, it'd be fucking hilarious and awesome if they showed him Stealth's hack =P

Well, most credits of these projects go to no other guy than the creator of IDA pro. Without IDA, you would still have been hacking palettes.
His name is Ilfak Guilfanov. And DataRescue made the 68k processor module, AFAIK.

It was rather recent. It should still be on the first page of this forum, under the title "Origins of the Sonic 2 beta" or something like that.
EDIT:
Here's your link.

The whole idea of chopping HPZ out because of time restraints is crap.
HPZ was the second most complete level in teh b3t4, and they did practically no work on it from beta to final. They had TONS of time, they just chose not to do it.

Then why did they drop it? You tell me.

That is thee most amazing hack. You did what Sega could not. (Or at least was too lazy to do.) I want to make my own S3&K cart with that as a patch ROM. Or the full ROM.
Minor bug:

This is quite fun, because you have just seen two of Stealth's projects this year.
And he said he had no time to work on these things, and ended up with this, and as soon as he drops this project public, he disappears again.

Palettes, and 98% of the other awesome hacks made without any IDA split disassemblies whatsoever.

Yeah, that's known. The main player object is limited to 24 tiles per frame, and some of Knuckles' frames take more than that, so there is garbage. Most people probably won't notice that during normal gameplay, I didn't even notice it while playing and I have some of the most trained eyes here.
Also, you might just want to use that ROM as-is, rather than trying to do a lockon. It works fine on my SMD, so I would imagine that it would work fine on something like a Tototek cart or any other copier (like Jim's DPF, for example).

But it would be awesome to have a S&K cart with a lockon that could handle S3, 2, and 1. I don't care how the lockon works, just as long as it works. If shoving S1 in makes S1&K, then I'm happy.
How much do those cost? Can you get 8MB carts?
