But "It was designed to have a palette change" sounds SO much like it was part of one level! The fact is HAS a palette change, rather than her changing the palette, which would be the case if it was a separate zone.
???
The fact that it has a pallette change rather than her changing the pallette? Having spoken English for a while now, I can honestly say that they mean the same thing. The phrase "It was designed to have a palette change" sounds like the art was drawn to accomodate two or more pallettes, nothing more.
What kind of landscape would be able to accomodate both hot deserts and snow?

Yeah I suppose you're right.

A mass of S2B members running out the door when we hear about the alpha?
If the level was going to have a pallet change half-way through (which would be wierd):
metamorphasis zone

I'd have to assume that the zone level would not be alliterative. In all of the Genesis games, none of the zone levels were alliterative, as far as my knowledge is concerned.

Sky Sanctuary Zone was alliterative.
It could have been, but not necessarily.

Ah, yes...I forgot about that one, but in other Sonic games (not for Genesis), you can see that the level names were purposely alliterative, so the chances that "the desert level" is alliterative is much less likely.

Sonic 3D Blast, a Genesis game, has alliterative names for every level.
Speaking of Sonic 3D Blast, the mentioning of Diamond
Dust Zone would potentially open a huge, huge can of worms... (take it to the other topic if anyone wants to explore; this topic is for naming the desert level).

I keep forgetting about 3D Blast...that's a game I didn't play all that much, and yes, it did have the alliterative names, as you did mention, and just as a quick follow-up to Diamond Dust zone, I really don't see how anyone would want to try and piece that to the Sonic 2 Beta.
I stand by my alliteration theory, so I feel that a name like 'Diamond Dust' was not even considered for the naming of the desert level.
If anyone wishes to argue with this point, then I suggest quoting this post in the other topic and replying there.
