I doubt that GCZ was going to be ARZ.. They have two different level slots, pallettes, and tiles have been found which some people believe are of a robotic GCZ.
About the hoax screenshot of GCZ.. I think I need to make a clearer rehoax of that.

hmm, well I can't remember much, it was a theory posted at the old s2beta board AGES ago, but basically it goes like this or something:

Tails is a Kitsune, a breed of foxes (I think) that have mulitple tails, the most powerfull kitsunes have more tails. I think the most powerful had 9 tails so that means that Tails was a reletivly weak kitsune compared to the most powerful.

anyway, something happened and there was a huge civil war, almost all of the kitsunes where wiped out but luckily Tails fled and took refuge on Westside island (where sonic 2 is set). there he met up with him and he tagged along with sonic.

basically the theory was that Sonic and Tails where to revisit the lost devastated city of the Kitsunes (and I remeber somone saying that there would be dead kitsunes everywhere, not one for tails fans eh?) and that was to be Genocide City.

the thoery IMO is just a rehashed version of Knuckles story though and I doubt it was to be because sonic 2 didnt have a storyline of sorts, plus it would be very distastful to have dead foxes everywhere! and that's all I can remeber on that theory, its interesting though.

If only we could get the sega team whom began developing it to tell us...

maybe it'll become a unlockable level in the new sonic games, seeing as some of sonic1's levels have already ben imported to 3d, who knows? they might do the whole of sonic in 3-d again

That would be cool. Images of 3d bosses suchas Hyper Metal Sonic, the Sonic 2 final boss, and The doomsday zone. I can imagine them making the Egg Viper look like a piece of cake.
