Oh dear christ why. Didn't the first two Boom games do the brand enough damage? I get that this'll likely be a cheap cash bringer if it sells at the same level the last one did but with the added bonus of not having to develop an engine.... but really the only part of Boom that anyone likes is the TV show (myself included, has to be said). I'll leave final judgement for now but I'm far from holding out masses of hope on this one.
Whatever Sonic Team's working on right now will have to be amazing to make up for how 2014 & 2015 have been for the core base, despite us never being the targets for Boom.
Yea, I don't think Sega really understands what they're doing exactly.
Even if you're making a game aimed at kids, you should still make them GOOD games. Quality speaks volumes, and even people that might be put off by the aesthetic or story will know that despite all that, the Sonic games you make are good games. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Spider-Man games were only as successful as they were for a while because Spider-Man 2, a tie-in game aimed at the people that say the movie, was also a really fucking good game. All the Boom titles have ranged from mediocre to shit, and the average person just sees "Sonic games are shit", not "Sonic tie-in games are shit". Boom has ruined all the positive momentum gained from Generations which was widely regarded as a good game, even if Sonic wasn't really your thing.
Making a Sonic game to pull these people back in is going to be like climbing a cliff with one arm and seven toes. It doesn't just have to be a good game, it has make everyone drop everything to see what it's about. It has to be the best damn game they've made in almost 20 years. I don't think they've got it in them, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.
