And yes, that description does mean I'm wading through tons of horrifying fanart.

I believe the first time the image was used was when SNK pulled the Neo Geo Pocket Color from the US. That's the version I'd like to find, and if anyone knows what the URL was, I'd ideally like to look it up on archive.org.

I've seen the image many times over the years. I think it was edited and used when... maybe, Area 51 shut down? I've run all the usual Google Image searches I can think of, and tried to find what the URL might have been via old news archives. Any help tracking it down would be awesome.

No, it was when Bleem! for Dreamcast died.

Probably on their old website. One Moment Please...

Edit: Very first result when I searched for that:

Best I could find, most others are about half the size.

That's probably the biggest it ever was. We're talking 2001 here, people were still using 1024x768 screens and dial-up.

Was it this?

(this picture was used as a reaction to the Yoshi's Island DLC for Lost World, lmao)

EDIT: Ack, ninja'd. That and what I found was a modified version of the original, bleh. Still hilarious though.

Aww, dangit, you're right, it was Bleem! I thought it was a little strange that SNK would've used Sonic, but my memory was off and that makes way more sense. No wonder I couldn't find it.

Thanks for the help, anyway! If anyone wants to help me find an archived version of whatever SNK's site was circa June of 2000, that'd be neat, but I think I can track that down.

Bleem! was in such a tough spot. I remember being really hyped for it, thinking of how cool it'd be to just sell my PSX, then it just got cut down to being more and more limited.

I've literally never heard of Bleem! before this topic. This is how I always knew the picture. It was the absolute bane of my existence back in 2003. Every time I was looking for info about S2Beta and the rest of research going on back then, every link seemed to bloody lead to SSRG and that picture.

I've heard of Bleem!, but I didn't realise that was where the original image came from - I, too, just remember the SSRG version. It's funny to see it again; many years ago an online "stalker" (I think some of you will know the one) edited it to put my name, and that day's date, on the tombstone. Which was pretty disturbing at the time, but it really makes me laugh to think about it now =P Ah, the old days of the Sonic community...

yeah, I didn't know there was a non-bleem version myself, but thinking about it, I'm not suprised

I was unaware of this picture existing before reading this thread and I love it XD It's a little... disturbing, but funny nonetheless. What gets me excited is that considering Josh asked about it, I expect to see it in an upcoming Geek Critique.
