I think that the more people who contact them in one go about this, the better.

Yes, this is true, but it'd be something if this cockwaffle made a wrong step in the minefield this stupid bastard is walking through like the idiot he or she is, please pardon my irritation or rage but everyone would agree that this shit gets old REALLY FUCKING FAST! Someone's got their head too far up their own ass to understand you're supposed to work for what you want, in this case someone wants to make quick cash based on assumption here might I add and it's disgraceful to the bitter core. I don't like people, people are stupid, mean, arrogant, ignorant, you name it, I deal with this, but there's no law that says I have to love it or enjoy it, and I don't, like everyone else...I hate it.

Well, since it appears that everyone has been sharing their Content ID claim count, why don't we just go ahead and share how many claims we have by this "elicense" persona over the span of how ever long this onslaught of expected fraud lasts. I was hit with six Content ID claims by the name "elicense" within a 48 hour time period, two claimed between Jan. 25th-26th and four claimed between Jan. 26th-27th...what...the...fuck. One of the claimed videos is an easy brush off compared to the other five because it was to show off a rom hack(Shadow in Sonic 1), so that video will likely be removed, but it was planned to be removed along with some other videos a while back before all this started, but that's beside the point. I have the elicense claimed video times muted and I'm waiting on some others to get their results to their disputes to make sure this is a safe thing to dispute if these are fraud claims.

Also, anyone else notice that this conveniently started around the time(if not shortly after) when SoA did their big changes?

If I get hit I'm disputing the claim.

Legitimate or not, this elicense doesn't seem to have any clear link to SEGA. I've been hit by illegitimate claims before where the claimant were seemingly unrelated to the actual company in question. The claim got removed in the end and I was happy.

What you need to do is do a bit of research. Dispute each claim with factual info on the copyright holders. If the claims were legitimate, you would have them from either;

  • SEGA themselves
  • The record company in which the track(s) in question belongs to (I.e. Wave Master, etc)
  • The composer themselves (I.e. Masato Nakamura)

There can be other proxies in which a claim can be made, however, YouTube's Content ID is easily exploitable. You should be looking for something similar to the format in which Nintendo's claims are made, which are legitimate - I wouldn't buy into this elicense until some proof can come up linking them to SEGA.

I got hit too. Disputed it. Here's hoping YouTube sees this as a problem.

Suspicion over at the SSMB from looking at http://www.elicense..../u/20140611.pdf is that they're a third-party company who is hired by companies to deal with checking social media for copyrights and all. If so, odds are SoJ had once more the clever idea of messing with Youtube.

It really probably is. The vague answers by SEGA West seem less "we're not doing this" and more "wait what are we doing this we're probably doing this from japan shit we can't comment"

I really wish I didn't make such a rash action at 3am...

If I get a copyright strike I'm going to flip.

Now you see why I'm so wary of disputing the claims. Music licensing is a mess and I would not be surprised at all if SoJ outsourced it to another company. I'm not risking my channel's status until we get a clear cut reply.

I'm talking about 11 videos so far I'd have to dispute, if these go wrong I can kiss my channel goodbye with the amount of strikes I'd get.

I jinxed myself yesterday.

Two videos thus far for me... I won't doubt more attacks, though.
Can we get a contact to the SoJ branch about this? The last thing I need is my monetization to drop because I disputed this and lost... And I don't wish to touch the next video until we have the last word ion this.

Technically speaking, it might be possible to overturn these -- if you send an email to Sega's support and they admit they don't know who "elicense" is, you might be able to use that in whatever counter-claim you make.

Youtube uses a lot of big scary legal language, though. And I don't even remember where Youtube's support email is, and in addition to that, last time I used it, I think it took them 9 months to respond to me.

But theoretically, if all the stars align properly and you forward Youtube a complete, full email from Sega's support about this "elicense" stuff, they'll get the message (there are ways to verify an email's legitimacy that go beyond what address is listed as the sender).

One of us (or multiple of us) have to bite the bullet and try it... as soon as we can figure out where Youtube's support email is.

Problem is if you try it and it doesn't work you don't get a free pass to try another dispute later, which is why I don't want to try anything when we're still missing so much information. I'm worried trying to dispute too soon will prevent me from being able to fix this later. :x

Why not you guys just create a separate channel and upload some Sonic/SEGA shit and wait for it to get hit by elicense then go through the dispute process?

Doesn't work and the channel gets striked then no loss it was a clone channel, but if it works then you have a way to beat this with your normal channels.

Just relax, this doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a copyright strike. They might just reject your dispute, in which case you won't get a strike.

Although maybe they'll just give you a strike straight away. In which case you are screwed. Sorry.

I have a bunch of elicense claims on some of my videos too, but as I don't monetize, it's OK for me. This has all happened only a few months after this incident, too.

I'm starting to look vindicated for using the "Remove music" function, huh? >_>

That being said, I've disputed with Japanese companies before (They can make shady claims of ownership, too!), and one big advantage to that is if you get to the point where you counter-claim a copyright strike and YouTube gets to processing it, these guys probably would (according to Youtube's terms from what I recall) have to go to a US court to sue you, which would probably make the cost of a lawsuit way more than they'd have any hope of earning from trying to take down your video. So if eLicense is Japanese, that'd probably be your trump card if you're that insistent on keeping your Sega tracks in.

I myself do not care quite so much.
