I have had videos with Sega content that were hit with elicense as well.

Has anyone tried tweeting them about this?

I just did. https://twitter.com/...724745389809668 Now I'm awaiting a response.

I have a feeling this is something set up by SOJ branch? I know it happen awhile back with Shining Force, a game that SEGA West hasn't published a new entry for in like... almost a decade. Seems its like a third party doing it and being aggressive.

Personally hate Youtube's policies. Wish players would just make a similar service where all the Let's Play people would migrate along with a chunk of Youtube's traffic.

A lot of the track names in the claims are in Japanese so you might be on to something. I'm aware of the problems in SoA, but Europe should still be able to answer this and I see the twitter account active.

It is indeed getting even more aggressive as well. For Melpontro:

This is getting out of hand. Way too much here.

Also, my video on Sonic Dash had E.G.G.M.A.N. with the vocals, so it was in English.

I don't know how much a chance the SoJ branch was involved in it, but I suppose I wouldn't hold it against them. Lord knows Sega is not as trustworthy for copyright... Or even proper prices.

Have you guys ever looked into Project DIVA? The Dreamy Theater PS3 things cost $30-40 in Yen even now, and it's JUST AN ADD-ON. You have to own the PSP game first, not mentioning you must buy each DT CORRESPONDING to the title, one DT doesn't work with another. Doing DIVA 2nd and DT 2nd is $70... But I digress.

I really can't stand this elicense shit. I've not been victimized for anything more thus far, but I am betting I'll jinx that here.

And then when everyone has migrated over to "TheyPipe", it gets used to share copyrighted content, and big businesses threaten to get the site closed unless they act quickly on copyrighted content, so they set up a system where it's automatically prevented from being shared until any copyright claims have been resolved and oh wait that sounds like YouTube never mind.

Also, given that it's Japanese I'm assuming that this is the elicense in question. Searching their copyrighted music database for anything Sonic related turns up absolutely nothing relevant whatsoever.

So, no idea what's going on here.

ShiftyFish on the Sega forums says they got a response from Sega support which seems to indicate that the claims aren't legitimate.

Hi guys. Was wondering if anyone else was having these issues, and since it appears I'm not alone, wanted to sign up and let you know what I've been able to find out. I emailed Sega's support to try and get to the bottom of this, and this is the response I received:

Quote

In North America and Europe we typically will not take action on YouTube videos or similar content. Monetization of Youtube videos is not something we consider, but we will demand the removal of any leaked footage as well as content that uses our properties in a malicious or inappropriate way.

I wasn't entirely satisfied with that response, so I pressed further to see whether or not they were the ones behind these copyright claims. I received this answer:

Quote

Generally we do not target YouTube videos.

So, unless there's been a policy change support is unaware of, it does appear these claims are not legitimate. However, I first emailed Sega about this last week when the claims first started showing up, and they have yet to put a stop to them (in fact, I've received several more today after not having gotten any over the weekend).

Either way, I would suggest anyone who's having these claims filed against them to email Sega directly so that, if they are illegitimate, they realize the problem is widespread.

I've just shot Sega's support an email as well to see if I can get a similar answer out of them, and anyone being affected might want to consider doing the same.

Yeah, SEGA America and Europe have been pretty supportive with most people on video content in the past. I hope this gets sorted out quickly, last thing SEGA needs is another part of their community hating them, don't want to drive attention away from Youtubers hating Nintendo.

So you guys gonna fight this or give up?

Since we know this is just some dickwad and not SEGA, I really think you guys who are getting these claims to fight back and email SEGA's support instead of just giving up.

But we don't know that, unless you know something we don't. Sega has said absolutely nothing on the matter.

Shouldn't the support email's that people are getting from SEGA be proof enough that they aren't behind it?

I would just email them and use their response, which is most likely the same response they are telling everyone else, and use that to file the counter claim. I say fight until we know for sure that SEGA is going full iron fisted asshole on us.

I already mentioned I know someone who is working at SEGA currently.

SoA has no idea whom "elicense" is, but I was told there is a possible chance SoJ had something to do with it, but they don't know and don't really think so due to how "bizarre" some of the claims look (as in, structured a bit strangely in the wording(?))

I guess just temporarily swap the music/mute it if you can, I still sent a dispute anyways because as far as I know there is no proof that "elicense" is a thing affiliated with SEGA (or possibly exists...? It could simply be fraud claims. Ain't the first nor last time that will and has happened).

I wonder, Is it a very large number of people being targeted, or small select group?

Just seems anything SEGA related will get hit. Small channel or not.

I've just been hit by this as well: My Sonic CD Intro and Ending videos have been flagged with Copyright Notices from elicense, although they've been up since 2008.

I've clicked the "Got it!" button under the acknowledgement, but I'm not touching the videos (editing or otherwise). Not surprisingly, there's no option that's even remotely close to select in the list when disputing this. Anyone got any contact details for Sega/Sega Europe for me? I think that the more people who contact them in one go about this, the better.
