And yet, nothing is being done or addressed since Android development is consider third-world to iOS.

This isn't difficult to explain. With no offence intended towards iOS users (as everyone is different), the kind of people that tend to buy iPhones are those with money to waste. Even though Android phones make up the majority of the market, they're probably getting significantly more money from iOS releases.

No point trying to sort out something that isn't making much money. I'd imagine they only build an Android version because in Unity it's as easy as clicking a button.

That and they only have to make sure it works on like, 3 devices. Not 24. But it is a raw deal I'll agree with you there.

Wait, this game's built with Unity? That is honestly surprising for Sonic Team, since middleware was never an option for them on Nintendo consoles. (Okay, they did use Nvidia physics in Colors, I have to admit that.) They needed experienced programmers to make their games run smooth on old-but-tried-and-tested consoles.

Android is a serious pain to develop for, though. You have 14 different screen resolutions and lots of hardware to target, so a straight port of a Unity game certainly wouldn't cut it. At least on iOS, all you have is one screen and system, kinda like a game console. For as much as I hate Apple, that's the way it is.

Although that can't excuse the game running just fine before video ads were crammed in. It had to be a last minute decision without much consideration for the performance cost.

That too, yes. But they'd work around that if there was money there.

DSS mentioned this, as said before. I'm certain it has to do with how many calls the game makes to the ad server.

Any enterprising folks care to take a stab at it? I doubt we'll produce a fix on our own, but it'd be interesting to see the game taken apart.

I had forgotten about that issue earlier in the thread. Is it even normal for a typical mobile game to make THAT many requests in a short amount of time?

I get on average 4k treasure (with a mediocre Lv0 Desert Chao) per run on the event. At this rate its going to take ~75 runs (possibly less if I get the magic lamp) to get to 300k final reward.

It looks like grinding out the event has better rewards per time spent than the main game. However, it's just that the Erazor Djinn companion feels so worthless compared to the Genesis in the birthday event.

Even the Genesis buddy was pretty crap to be honest with you. But yeah, Erazor is worse. A x1000 combo for a shield when Sharha gives you any regular item at just x400? He's crap.

Yeah, even though I guess I'm the only person for whom this effects, my "Streamlined Mode" is definitely bugged. Booted the game up for the event, and Streamlined Mode turned itself back on again (even though I've turned it off at least five times now) and the game was a fucking mess. Almost unplayable.

While Streamlined Mode is forced to be turned on:
  • Loading times can last over a full minute just to get to the map/menu screen
  • The game runs well below 30fps, often hanging around the single digit area.
  • Likely as a side effect of the above, the controls stop properly responding, and the game physics become unpredictable.
  • Massive stuttering occurs, where sometimes the game hangs for several seconds. (This is especially bad right after an advertisement)
  • Speaking of ads, sometimes the game locks up instead of showing an ad.
  • The game is prone to crashing, even on the score tally screen

Turned Streamlined Mode off and...
  • Loading times were under 10 seconds
  • The game often hits 60fps, but probably averages more around 40-50fps.
  • I can actually do spring launchers because the lag isn't screwing up the timing
  • There are still occasional stutters, but they're barely noticeable

Ridiculous. The only problem is, turning Streamlined Mode off, I'll exit a session of Sonic Runners to find my 20% of my battery is gone.

streamline off is most likely using all the juice your device can produce, so your battery is being shot, my iphone can easily eat 20% of the battery if I do a string of runs over half an hour or so.

Since you are on android, check to see if you can disable any cores in the decice settings, my old nexus had options to use all 4 cores, only 2 or cap the mhz for a low power mode.

Well, they've successfully forced me to stop playing. I tried the bonus event today.

I've seen PowerPoint presentations with higher framerates.

I've seen comic books with higher framerates.

I've seen games with hand-drawn art, where the art is hand-drawn by a live artist sitting next to you and pushing pieces of paper in front of you, with higher framerates.

etc.

It makes the rest of the game seem optimised.

Does anybody know how to transfer game save data between devices? I really don't want to lose my Classic Sonic. :(

I saw the ID thing mention data transfering but it never goes into detail how.

I did it. Download the game on your new device. I recommend making sure it'll work by playing a bit of the tutorial. Then there's a "data transfer" box in the upper-left of the title screen. Enter your info in there. Everything seemed to go smoothly, though I think I read something about your Red Star Rings not transferring, so make sure you use those.

Also, the game stupidly will no longer be playable on your old device once you do this. Considering it has server-side saving and must always be online, it's ridiculous that it's locked to one device.

I recommend everyone who's put time into it take a screenshot of your transfer ID screen and store it somewhere safe, just in case something happens.

That's a really good idea actually. I just went ahead and did it. Back when the game was about three weeks into the soft launch, my data on the Android version completely disappeared for no reason. I lost a load of buddies then. Back then ID's were useless as there wasn't any transfer system in place.

Speaking of buddies, the system still needs some serious adjustments. Normal buddies are confined to the daily roulette, which is fine because every single one of them is a useless piece of crap. However, they still count towards the bonus you get for number of unique buddies collected/levelled up, and they're incredibly hard to come by because you have to first land on the BIG section of the roulette. I've not gotten one once since they were moved there. Stick them on the first part of the daily roulette. And it also make the special roulette more useless because it's not undergone any changes. It used to be the fact that you could only get silver, gold or character eggs that made the special roulette so special. Nor that applies to the regular roulette and the special one has marginally improved odds. It ought to offer better prizes; replace the silver eggs with copious amounts of rings and increase the odds of the the gold and character eggs. The reason I'd put rings in there is because you need obscene numbers of them to level up characters now. If you could win huge amounts, it would actually be really helpful.

Oh and change the special eggs into tokens or something. They're eggs that, for some reason, don't hatch. It's kinda unusual and a bit confusing.
