NiGHTs model format hacked

    THANKS so much to SSNTails for cracking his head open with me to solve this one:

    The endy thingy magigy:

    DO NOTE!!!
    The ripper is in a BETA stage so it's missing things such as:
    rotation
    positioning of child objects
    FINDING ALL models (The current formula gets stopped easily by coincicides)

    Also note, NiGHTs uses elevation maps for the terrains. That's 2D grid data, which is something totally different to what this does.

    To show what I mean about it being BETA:

    (Do to no joint support yet, it is all stacked at the origin, thus making the "illusion" that the character here is vomitting their own body parts)

    Seriously, why are you talking about emulation? This is a program of some sort that lets you view NiGHTs models.

    That, sir, is Puffy's arena (one of the first bosses in NiGHTS, and the place where you fight against Robotnik when you play as Sonic, in Xmas NiGHTS.) And it seems to perfectly ripped.

    The two others pictures, however, show a few problems :

    Twin Seed's Tower. Its base is rotated of 90? though..



    Anyway, that's an awesome job :(

    To my surprise, the ripper even works for the Christmas NiGHTs release.

    !!!!NOTE!!!!: I was the one who by hand moved sonic's body parts for the better picture.

    Now all we need is some way to extract the textures and BGs from NiGHTS, and we'll be well on our way to making some hacks of the game! That is, hacks to play in emulator - not on real Saturn - unless someone can crack the special copy protection format that NiGHTS uses!

    BTW, is there any kind of texture/image viewer for NiGHTS available? Or do I still have to use my TV capture card?

    No idea if any other game used the NiGHTs 3D engine.

    The ripper can be downloaded here:

    The model format I'll call the Reala model format.

    Things to know:
    1) Models are 90% of the time in *H.bin files
    2) One file may have 20 models or so in it
    So, don't complain when you see a tree under the Ideya palace.
    3) The model ripper outputs to the .obj file format
    4) Milkshape 3D sucks at loading .obj files, get "Deep Exploration"
    Then convert the files to such formats as 3DS and etc.

    5) The ripper is in BETA stage, meaning there are a LOT of things missing.
    One such thing is the positioning of body parts. So, don't complain when you see NiGHTs with his feet, arms, hands, and head all overlapping at the origin.

    6) You can drag and drop files onto the program to rip, but if you do, the output can be in the C: drive, My Documents, etc.
    Search for a file "pgwhm.obj" if you can't find it.

    7) Btw, you are going to need Nemesis's PRS decompresser to do the dirty work.

    BTW, that 'thing' under the 'palace' is a ... tree.

    Do NOT forget that ALL objects are positioned at the origin.
