Hello there! I'm KTH, a hacker, totally new in this forum and I come here for show you some of my stuff. Recently I wanted to hack Sonic Colours, he got some compatible file format for edit them. And for starting, I wanted to make a character, a character I like and some people like too (Not Shadow) : Classic Sonic.

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

He got his own shader/Material and he got custom animation (based from Sonic Generations) and Super Sonic. There only one big problem, you can't play on StarLight Carnival. Look like the stage can't support .cpk edit.
He might look too dark on the start screen, but after he look really good. I wanted to put Classic Eggman, I started to make it too but there was a problem with his mouth.

Tutorials on linked on the description of the video.

Hey, that's pretty rad. When I'm not so lazy I'll throw it on my Wii some time.

Amazing!

This is making me want to replay the game all over again, I hope you can eventually fix Starlight Carnival and Classic Eggman!

PS: I hope SEGA gets the clue from Classic Sonic fans and does something new with him again (and less sparsely) after Boom.

Right, so two problems:

1. You used adf.ly to link your Dropbox download. This is a bit obnoxious, but then there's:

2.
$ unrar x "Classic Sonic in Sonic Colours [KTH].rar"

UNRAR 5.01 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2013 Alexander Roshal

Extracting from Classic Sonic in Sonic Colours [KTH].rar

Enter password (will not be echoed) for player_Sonic.arc:

This is REALLY obnoxious, and you didn't make it clear that the RAR password is listed on the YouTube page. (It's "KTH_ClassicSonic", no quotes.) Why'd you even use a RAR password in the first place?

Other notes: The instructions require unpacking and repacking the CPK. This is one of the major stumbling blocks to Sonic Colors hacking, since this is a time-consuming process. Sonic Generations has the same issue, but it's partially solved there by the use of CPKREDIR, which basically redirects CPK access to a regular directory. If something like this is hacked into Sonic Colors (redirecting CPK access to the SD card or a USB hard drive), it'd make Colors hacks a lot easier to do, but doing this requires in-depth knowledge of PowerPC assembly as well as the RVL SDK.

I never really understood everyone's need to have classic Sonic in everything. Sure his shoes are different and his eyes aren't green, but originally, I assumed the genesis just couldn't take on such details with Sonic 1's sprites, so they saved the design for later consoles. I do care about classic Tails, though. Turning an adorable flying fox into an awkward teen who does nothing but spout as much trivia as possible was one of the worst character changes they ever made :'(

I think this is a pretty interesting mod. Hope you get the Classic Eggman and Starlight Carnival bugs ironed out. And if you didn't add him in the game already, put classic Tails in too. :3

Nope. Sonic 3's Super Sonic sprites has green eyes (though in other incarnations they are black), and even if the Genesis wasn't able to fully implement his design into the game then the artwork would had depicted him as such. Classic Sonic is the original design for the character. The Adventure design of Sonic was a redesign of not just Sonic, but all of the main characters as part of Adventure's semi-"reboot" of the series after it was left fallow (in terms of mainstream games) during the Saturn era.

It's just a matter of preference. Some people prefer the original design of Sonic to the redesign they gave him with Adventure and onwards, simple as that.

It's just a better character design, really. It's simpler and has a more timeless, broad appeal. Classic Sonic is like Mickey Mouse or Felix The Cat, he's cute, he can do cool shit when the company lets him, he appeals to American and Japanese audiences, it just works. Modern Sonic is just a weird, embarrassing looking anime character most of the time.

It looks like yet another SSBB modder from KC:MM has joined Sonic Retro. What do you think of Sonic Retro so far?

I've made a few casual attempts at modding Colors, and I too have encountered most of the issues you've mentioned (being too dark on the title screen, Starlight Carnival crashing, etc.) I've got a few theories for why Starlight Carnival crashes, so I'll see if I can find a way to fix that whenever I feel like making another attempt at modding Colors.

I hope you have a good time here at Sonic Retro (and, like Gerbilsoft said, try not to use adfly and rar-passwords next time. Brawl Vault isn't the only place that doesn't like those.)

Tails only appears in cutscenes in Colors. Since ALL of the game's cutscenes are video files (rather than in-engine,) I doubt KTH would be able to get him into the game.

Yay, KC-MM buddies.

Joe, if you ever figure anything out, make sure to make a post about it. Generations wasn't the only game I put Billy Hatcher in, I made (but didn't complete) a version for Sonic Colors too. Mostly because of how old the tools were back then.

Also, KTH, nice work with the Colors stuff, dude. I gotta agree with everyone else, though. Adfly links aren't cool, and password protecting your RAR is kinda overkill. Seriously.

So, I'm an idiot. Would someone care to explain what I need and how I can make this run with a wbfs Sonic Colors file on dolphin?

You'd probably have to use Wii Game Manager to convert your WBFS to ISO and then WiiScrubber to patch it into the file.

Just remember to keep a backup of your CPK around. This mod doesn't work on Starlight Carneval, after all.

Joe, KTH, did you think of fiddling with the Compression Size of the CPK? That might be messing with things too.

I can't find a CPK unpacker and have no idea where to look. Like seriously... awful at this shit. Hell I don't even know how to get the cpk out of the thing.

I need baby's first hacking thing.

Remember how I said "I had a few theories about why Starlight Carnival crashes"? That was one of the things I thought of.

I haven't actually tested it out yet, but that will be the first thing I try once I make another attempt at Colors modding.

You can extract the CPK archive out of the Sonic Colors ISO using WiiScrubber.

To unpack/re-pack the CPK archive, you can use the CRI Packed File Maker.

Oh. Okay. So, all you have is the .wbfs, then.

Uhh, first off, you will need to have your game in .iso format. You can do the conversion using Wii Game Manager(http://www.mediafire...ger+1.5.0.2.rar)

Once it is converted to ISO, you can export Sonic_2010_0.cpk from the game using either Dolphin or WiiScrubber(http://www.wii-homeb...crubber/summary)

After that, get CPK_Unpack.exe (http://puu.sh/5X3UR.zip),
and CriPackedFileMaker.exe. It's deceptively hard to find. (https://app.box.com/...leoboqq4s4n4js5)

After you have all of this stuff, you can follow the tutorial KTH linked to in the description of his Youtube video. Alternatively, I've put it in a pastebin for your convenience: http://pastebin.com/pFa1HQc4

Edit: Ninja'd.
