I know you can add the sample, but it would be a real pain... I remember finding out how somewhere, but I hardly understood anything, and MegaPCM is, in my opinion, a better alternative.
Personally, if you don't mind me chiming in here, but I'm in the camp that believes that you really should only implement something if you're going to make the most out of it. I think changing the music to reflect Sonic 1's stock DAC samples is the better choice here.
Not discouraging the use of MegaPCM, as
I think it's certainly an excellent addition to a hack and extremely useful for musicians like me, but sometimes using what you have already isn't a bad idea either.
I'll definitely give this a run through soon, it's nearly 6am here and I'm exhausted as it is! But from the replies here it certainly seems promising, so keep it up.
I should also note that the other methods for replacing samples in Sonic 1 that aren't as extensive as implementing MegaPCM go back a good few years, but they've worked for most of us! Puto disassembled the Z80 driver from the original game, if that's the way you want to go (though samples need to be compressed), there's also jman2050's driver and MarkeyJester also made an alternative a few years back, which isn't dissimilar to MegaPCM's ease of use.
