I have to wonder why they chose yellow for Sonic's title treatment throughout the years.
1 Because the dark border on the font make it more legible on the complex background it appears on
2 Because the title screen lettering mostly appears with Sonic near it so it makes a more dynamic/varied composition.
Anyway, Sonic 3 title screen is not an example of beauty either lol.

I always preferred Yellow-inside-Blue myself. Might just be childhood influence from Sonic and Knuckles Collection being my indoctrination into the series, though.

Ya Sonic 3's title screen was definitely the most derpy out of the original series (Sonic CD comes in a close second though). That checker pattern also just flat out did not work.

I personally love Sonic 3's title screen as it suits the aesthetic of the game itself, far more than the usual three-stripe ribbon would have done in my opinion.
Also yellow-inside-blue is best.

I still wonder why they didn't use the Sonic from the S&K title screen in S3&K. That render on the S3 title screen is mad ugly, lol.
Otherwise I really like Sonic 3's title screen. The checkered banner is really neat.

I've always thought that the yellow text helped make the O in "SONIC" look like a gold ring.

Variations of blue go well against variations of orange/yellow.
I've always imagined that's why Tails was yellow-orange, too.

I always knew about the blue and orange thing (as, I thought, did everyone else - it was taught in basic art class after all, the one that everybody took) and notice it everywhere - but I
never put the two together and concluded that it could have been a conscious design choice when creating Tails. Holy shit, mind blown
