So this is a thing.... maybe. It looks like Sonic Dash with your very own original character, and if you win or whatever your very own original character could indeed become an original character for the Sonic games.

Personally, I hope this is fake. I cringe at the idea of any fan design character being in a Sonic game ever. However I would laugh if someone made a character that looked just like Mighty, Bean, Bark, or Fang and it won.

I don't think this is fake but I do believe it was a concept for this guy's portfolio or something that Sega passed on like the SA Burger King promotion.

I think it's a refused proof of concept too. Those characters are way too creepy and out of the regular Sonic style to fit in any Sonic game.

If this does indeed turn out to be real, there's your proof that SEGA doesn't listen.

It's a common criticism that Sonic has too many characters, and to create a competition to put a fan character (this is the SONIC community we're talking about here) in the game is bonkers. It would be a terrible thing to do. As Casshern and ashthedragon said, it must be some sort of proof of concept. Every company listens to criticism to some extent, and to go completely against it would be suicide. Not to mention the designs look like they're from a shoddy LittleBigPlanet ripoff.

Recently, it seems every Sonic game has attempted to be a reinvention, replaying the ol' "SONIC IS BACK" card with every release. I understand SEGA's need to break out and try something fresh, but this doesn't seem like the right approach. Sonic Boom alone is good enough, IMO.

I'm not buying this, but I'm sure the internet will be up in arms about it either way.

EDIT: This is certainly not a real product. Look at it! They're using an iPhone 4 in the advert and the UI in the screenshots is iOS 6 or previous. This is old.

Also, stylistically it looks incredibly different from Sonic. Like others said, I think that it was probably something pitched but not picked up by SEGA.

Pretty sure it was indeed a pitch that was rejected.

Scratch the Cock? I like it!

Yeah I'm sure this is nothing more than a failed pitch, or just a hoax type deal

The Raccoon character resembles a common Poser plushie figure (re: it is), and I'm pretty sure the Goat/Ram thing is one of LittleFox's Poser plushies as well.

The Ape is also from RDNA, but I don't have any good search terms at the moment.

It's cheaper and easier to render Poser figures than create a new mesh for a pitch, methinks.
