I did know of this, but only because... Sonic Retro told me... a few years ago. It's like the pushable rocks/spikes/whatever in Sonic 3&K or the water-avoiding path in Sonic 2's Chemical Plant - it's almost as if these features were put in specifically to be discovered multiple years down the line.
Known about it, didn't think it was a big deal. Then again, I almost never take that path.
This. Happened a couple times where I wasn't paying much attention and not jumping for whatever reason but I never go that way anymore anyway. I thought it was common knowledge but I guess not XD

Yeah, I knew about that one. You just need to completely miss the timing on a jump and decide to wait for the swing back and forth, and boom, you find it. =P
Well, my mind is blown. That's completely tits, and I'm going to check it out for myself now
EDIT: Huh, in the mobile version, it doesn't really bob in the water, just floats perfectly as though it's a moving platform.
