Sorry if this is a useless topic, but I searched for such a solo hack and can't find one. I'm fairly sure someone had released a hack a while back (few years?) that not only removed your partner, but changed a few of the levels up so you could play solo (I.e. the elevators that required two players would work with only one). I know some PAR/GG codes exist to disable the tether, but I'm looking for a more substantial hack.

The wiki has a link to the Sonic in Chaotix hack, but no solo hack. Does one exist or am I just going senile?

For starters, maybe you should have posted about this in the E&RE forum instead of Fangaming? :v:

As for the hack in question, no I don't recall anyone ever making such a hack.

However, I've definitely thought about trying to take the Chaotix assets and making a "good" fangame out of them

But that's also kind of what Metal Sonic Hyperdrive does (and to relate to the topic at hand, no, they aren't direct ports of Chaotix levels, they just use the tiles)

Seeing the ticker at the top of the site jogged my memory - I'm remembering a version of Sonic 3D Blast that removed the flickies, not a version of Knuckles Chaotix without the tether. Sorry to get anybody's hopes up.

That'd be a damn fine hack, though :v:

It's funny you should talk about Knuckles Chaotix with a solo hack. I do recall rumors of such a hack existing, a few have mentioned its existence. I have yet to be shown it though.

I will say though, removing the second player from Sonic Crackers proved to be rather simple, the engine was designed specifically to be versatile regarding character selection, swapping characters, removing them, putting them in. You could have two Sonics or two Tails' if you really wanted, at the change of a single instruction. So I wouldn't be surprised if removing one of the characters (or the tether) from Knuckles Chaotix would be just as easy.

It would be so cool if there really were a hack like this. What would make it even better is restoring Tails, now that we have access to the beta with the flying behavior.

Still, if one removes the tether, you'd probably want 2P AI like that of Sonic 2 or 3's. The half second delay like the Sonic 2 alpha just blows, but Chaotix was able to get away with it because it was primarily meant for 2 players, and the tether ensured the AI partner never got left behind or lost.

The half second delay is far from the worst part considering that when he touched anything that could hurt you, he would lose your rings as well. Though I have to wonder why that two-second fix wasn't implemented already by our earliest prototype, but whatever the developers priorities are, it's slightly off-topic here.

Would Knuckles Chaotix even be beatable with only one player? The stages are so.... ... ... Chaotic for lack of better word. The characters' physics attributes would almost certainly have the be altered, or maybe that's just me? Given, I would love to try Knuckles Chaotix with one player, I might actually prefer it that way, since I really don't like the game very much normally.

You couldn't beat KC single player, as there are many traps and platforms that require both characters to stand in specific spots. At the minimum, levels would have to be changed to fix this, and certain objects behaviors would have to change as well.
