That Sonic 2 box art is my favourite piece of artwork from my childhood. Every character is just dead on.

I always loved the boxarts what Greg has done. It's a shame he is no longer with us :C.
Buyatari, amazing scans. It's very awesome to see WIPs of the boxarts I have grown up with. I loved the colouring on them

I've owned this sonic 2 promo display since I was a kid. I'm now curious wherever or not this was one of Greg's illustrations though there was a lot of art like this on British Sonic merch only, so maybe not?

Doesn't look like his. That classic Tails is adorable on that art though. Sonic's kinda creepying me out due to that fucked up mouth shading.

I'd have to say no. That doesn't look like his work.

Holy heck, his site has classic TMNT VHS boxart and all sorts of other artwork I remember from the 80's and 90's. Greg Martin's defined an element of the culture, here. It's sad to only learn who did all this in passing.
Hopefully most of his art is archived for reference. His is a style that needs a successor working on it.

I don't want to be that guy, but was their a reason given as to why we were told soo late about his passing?
We dug up his obit. from his local newspaper over at SSMB, if you guys want to give your condolences:

Another I-don't-want-to-be-that-guy moment but
Quote
He worked for Disney & Hanna Barbera Studios of which he created & drew the Ninja Turtles
Things wrong with this statement in bold.
I suppose it's a bit rude to fact-check an obituary, though.

SSMB?
As the obit says Greg died unexpectedly. He didn't return emails but we didn't think anything of it. Months go by and so we start contacting people only to find out the worst.

You know, I'd really like to see one of the better artists out there in the community attempt to ink this like the other arts and then we can try to design a custom cover for Sonic and Knuckles or something.

If somebody were to do that, I could easily drop the image into one of my Genesis templates that I created when making the Sonic 4 custom covers.

Seeing as how I've never seen this art anywhere before, what are the chances that this was a design for a Sonic & Knuckles cover until Sega decided to keep constant with that lock on logo.

Sonic Stadium Message Boards, also known as Sonic Stadium. sort of our brother message board, run by different people though. some of us are from their (like me) and some of the Retro members and staff are members at SSMB too. I'm kind of surprised you haven't heard about it, its been around for just as long as Retro has.
Oh, I see. What a horrible way to find out that a friend died. the Obit. doesn't menction anything about how he died, was he sick?
