Well, with TJ&E3 for DC I thought I should share too. Been holding on to this for a few months, I tried doing a prototype trade-off thing on the Assembler forums with it but that ended up being a huge failure(didn't hurt to try!).

DOWNLOAD

Copy-paste from Assembler post: This is a very early prototype of Success' game, which as we all know does a good job of utilizing the system's hardware. The final game came out in August of 1994, while this is dated 1993. That means it is likely to be at least 9 months before the final. And it shows. Only the first three levels are playable normally. Hacking reveals the rest of the levels, though very incomplete. In general, differences include:

Incomplete intro
Incomplete levels(any bosses after the first three can't be beat)
Different palettes
Different graphics
Different music mixes(most of all the tracks from the retail are here, surprisingly for something this early)
Missing sound effects, some different I think
Missing cutscenes

Use the code FF8CEB:00xx to access levels past 3. I forget exact numbers that go in but no one should have any trouble figuring it out. This code worked on Regen last I checked, I'm hoping it works on other emus.

Enjoy! :v:

This is one of those games I want to love but I can't ever figure out what the hell is actually going on or how are you supposed to play it.

Unfortunate that that did not work out. I suppose hoarders care more for hoarding than obtaining new stuff, huh?

Or the goods I offered wasn't enough :P In any case, protos are released often enough that I imagine sooner or later all the interesting stuff will get out there. As long as others keep sharing and spreading the good will, that is ;)

I'm concerned that the stuff that goes unreleased will eventually just rot away; EPROMs lose their electrical charge and CDRs are chemically unbalanced.

Cotton was a great series so it's good that this prototype was released.

Awesomeness ! Panorama Cotton is really awesome, I actually like it more than the other games in the series.

That file sharing service refuses to work here, regardless of browser...

Thanks a lot for sharing this! I've always found Panorama Cotton to be one of the most fascinating Mega Drive games ever released, and it's pretty cool to see how it looked [more than?] half a year before release.

So they had already finished the engine by 1993? Somebody at SEGA must have told them to delay this game on purpose, seeing how it would have put to shame some of the Mega-CD's "exclusive" special effects...

Eh, most effects in the game really aren't all that different from anything in Super Thunder Blade or Space Harrier 2 -- and those were launch titles

I simply cannot understand why this gem was never released in Europe and the States, but then again many crazy but fun Japanese games aren't. :/

It uses the same basic effect (which was also used on the Master System and a popular trick since the mid-late 80s). But, it is much smoother, and it does more than just the ground: you have multiple planes twisting in every direction, branching paths, 90° turns up and down, vertical scrolling, waving backgrounds, and a simply ridiculous amount of sprites zooming at you.

Hopefully the hoarders have at least made backups for themselves.
