Both of you are missing the point brought up on this page. What Vrantheo brought up doesn't increase the quality over 320kbps. It makes it smaller at the same quality since a lot of the time, 320kbps pads a lot of information just to bring it up to 320kbps even if the audio information doesn't call for it. A -lot- smaller in some cases.

Judging from the responses, regardless if the suggestion is better quality vs smaller filesize, you're absolutely right though, normal people don't care. :P (Assuming you two are normal. If you aren't, disregard this post)

Well I did also mention the new CVBR setting that can surpass both VBR V0 and CBR 320 though.

Also, on your cover -- a suggestion. Change from the crappy 'Sonic logo font' you used for 'Original Soundtrack' and 'Without Boundaries' to Futura Bold and Futura Black which are the ones they used on the official cover. That font has already too much personality and ends up removing the focus on the Sonic logotype.

That sparkly effect actually looks quite nice on the front cover, almost makes me not hate it (but you're right that back cover is unreadable).

Thank you for the names of the fonts btw, I wanted to do that but my knowledge of typography is currently very limited, so I hadn't the slightest what to look for. So I went for the ol Sonic font there and you're right, it does kind of overload the box with too much of the same font. Interesting thing about the actual game at least, I believe it's the first Sonic game to ever use the Sonic logo font for anything beyond the logo, only they added lower case letters which previously never existed. Anyways, I will make that change as well as fix some other minor things (Clean up the Sonic Team logo a bit and Zavok horn has some masking errors that cause minor parts of the background to show up) in the morning.

FYI, the Sonic Colors soundtrack had the same kind of sparkle effect.

So to sum it up once and for all:

1. Get this patched latest LAME.
2. "-V0 --cvbr 0 -q 0".
3. Run the files through MP3packer with the -z switch.

That's the BEST you can EVER get from MP3 now. If you don't care that much, the good old VBR V0 is enough.

Either way just ditch CBR 320.

This is all very well and good, but quite frankly you're attempting to get blood from a stone. Why is it that the people who whine and bitch the most about not getting lossless are the ones most likely to never drop money down on an album themselves?

I do not rip albums for archival purposes. I do it solely for casual listening, or as a "try before you buy" for some people here. If you want lossless, buy the album and do it yourself or kindly stop bitching that you're not getting the format you want.

I feel like the sparkle effect would have looked nicer on the Colors album than this one, or at least made more sense. But who am I kidding, we all know this game is just Sonic Colors 2: Mario edition

Spoiler

Updated the album art and made those fixes I mentioned I would (also fixed the outlines around the font to be less rounded). Enjoy

You keep misunderstanding. You're free to do whatever you want, heck, even scratch your discs before ripping. I'm much more interested in correcting your misinformation than "getting the format I want".

I wouldn't mind if you just call me a smartass instead or something. I've finished my purpose.

Are you trolling? You have to be trolling. (Emphasis mine)

edit: So that this post is less blatantly obtuse, I really couldn't care less what you rip at. I don't even have a digital copy of any sort while I wait for my package to arrive. Your posts, on the other hand, simply imply you didn't even read the content of our posts, which literally have nothing to do with a lossless rip and more of simply telling you why, from a theoretical standpoint, 320kbps is outdated, both from a quality perspective (which, fair enough, may not interest you) and a filesize perspective (which, if you are a normal human being, should interest you)

You don't want to re-rip the album. Totally fine. (Again keep in mind I really don't care either way) However I'm not exactly sure what kind of point you're trying to prove by turning around from completely missing the point via selective reading to outright being baselessly offensive.

Ashram, the way you do choose to do things is wrong and I couldn't be more offended. How dare you.

Seriously the time it would take him to re-do his rip, which he isn't doing, would take more time than the miniscule additional time it would take to download the current rip. If you've got bandwidth limits or something, well, that sucks.

OK, I think that's enough bitching about the OST rip. If you want lossless, go buy the damn CD. =P

In fact, the Sonic font is Futura Extra Bold modified. You can see on some early american box art they have used the base font instead of the modified one.
