Seriously I want to know!

Edit:
It would be cool to get a little bigger GDK community going or something. GDK has a lot of great features. Its to bad that the users are so spread out and not as unified as they could be.

My option isn't on here, at least I don't think it is. I couldn't get the hang of GDK, and I didn't have enough patience to put up with my super slow computer while trying to learn. Always said I'll give it another go when I have a not-shitty computer.

I put in "About to Use". I tried Green Hill Paradise a while back when it first came out, and it ran so slowly that it was unplayable. I mean, there was so much lag that it was impossible to control the camera or even just getting Sonic to turn. I'm going to be getting a new computer soon for college stuff (Game Art and Design, meaning I need something able to run modeling software and current games), so when I do have something that can run it, I'll try it out.

That sucks ! Hope you get your new system soon.
Its hard to work with an engine like udk when you feel your system is crippled by bad performance.

My opinion ins't there either:

"I love UDK and GDK, have been learning a lot from it for quite a while, but can't do shit in it because UVW hates me (or I'm retarded) ;-;"

Edit: Probably the last bit can be changed for "because I'm dumb and can't model assets" instead.

Too many options, didn't read. :specialed:

I don't have a custom desktop PC built for anything seriously 3D yet, so I'm sticking to 2D development on my laptop for now. Even when I do, I will be working on original games in Unity instead, (Unreal's license fee isn't so bad, but Unreal Engine 4 is probably around the corner, and it's not as portable to other platforms as Unity.) so I can't say I am, or will be, a GDK user.

I dabbled with UDK quite a while ago, and I had tonnes of problems with it. It wouldn't recompile scripts properly, all sorts of shit. I thought I wasn't cut out for this kind of thing, despite having loads of ideas. Then this year I set myself a new years resolution - to either make a new hack (similar to Sonic 1 Alt) or do at least one level in 3D. The video in my signature is what I acheived, and I am rather pleased I was able to put it together in such a short time (about 6 months, while learning at the same time). It's buggy as hell, and it's unfinished but one day I'l touch it up and release it.

Now though, I'm working on a 2.5D game in SGDK. It's nothing extravagant - I mean, I can't model and have very limited art skills but I enjoy level design. I'm hoping when I fully reveal what I'm working on I can attract some help, but until then I'l plod along as I am :D

You guys should all be institutionalized for working with the UDK :v:

It's commendable how much Xaklse & Co. have been able to accomplish with it. It'd probably be less effort to create a new engine from scratch and it wouldn't take 5 minutes for the levels to load.

... wut m8? It would be "less effort to create a new engine from scratch"?! Like it would be easier to create a new engine than use GDK that is an almost-complete engine with everything tweakable and functional? Also, no levels in UDK takes 5 minutes to load. Only at the very first time you open some map with lots of custom stuff in the editor, but generaly, after that, it takes no more than a few seconds to load everything up nicely.

Sure it wouldn't have the IDE, the visual scripting and shader editor, and as sophisticated Level editor as the ones UDK supplies, as far as development goes. Other than that, yes, everything tweakable but in the source files.

Think Game Maker/MMF2 vs C++(or any other stand-alone language of preference). I get it that it'd be useless for non-programmers, which the majority of the fan game makers are.

I have never, and will never, use SonicGDK, and UDK is entirely to blame. I've messed around in a few 3D engines, including Unity, UDK, and Source. UDK was by far the most difficult to use.

I would have liked to do a Sonic game in C4 engine ( I wont now though) . In 2006 I bought a for life 2 seat license with a programming partner who left me high and dry since I have no C++ programming skills.
The engine itself is pretty solid, and it has full source code access. When I bought the licenses I paid 100 a pop. Now they go for over 750 for a standard license.
I don't mind using UDK, its kind of complex at first with all the tools it offers. but I've grown used to its workflow already. For us art guys UDK seems better than C4 in many ways because UDK at least offers a little better asset management.
Unity's asset management feels kind of limited to me as you cant do as much with the options. C4 may be the best engine that I've used to date as you can wright any tool you need from scratch using C++ without limitations.
