I had plans for another boss to spawn
smaller enemies around him that you would have to jump/spindash into
and they go back to fighting the main boss)

That's dangerously similar to the Biolizard and its pink bubbles...

Yes it is,, also Gardian sphinx from Xtreme is similar to another Sonic Adventure 2 boss...
Check this out ! And add it to your wiki, than smoke it ! (because this shit will get you high!)

Okay guys one of my contacts has come threw for us !

After many years of waiting ! Here it is !
The metal sonic Boss fight presented by spooieVAULT of Youtube !
Without the lead over on Assembler games and your help Shoemanbundy, we wouldn't have found this.
Thanks man !

Metal sonic Boss clip at around 3:44 right after Nights.

Even with the find above ,, we still have a chance for a higher quality VHS tape ( although I doubt it would be much better)
I still have a few contacts who haven't gotten back to me with their VSH copy yet.

Ha. Doesn't look like Metal was doing much other than floating around, but there we go.

Its hard to tell if they used a true Sonic 3D Model as in the below screen or the sprite, I'm going to have to download this bad boy and dissect it frame by frame !
I've known this for some years already but After seeing the gameplay in motion with this demo I'm sure its proof enough that its the same engine used for the 718 (night looking leaked Saturn demo) down to the gameplay mechanics!
Anyways in the screen below: This is another version of that nights demo with different textures and a 3D sonic model instead of a sprite. (The terrain is exactly the same as in 718)

It seems Metal Sonic is shooting out some kind of projectile.

Front page'd. Hopefully it's showing the RIGHT video this time. Stupid video id.

Anyway, see, this is the kind of stuff we should be doing a little more of instead of constantly bitching about everything wrong with Sonic now. This and the whole thing with The Jetzons are examples of things we've not tapped into as a research community yet, mainly because (in my opinion) most of the people here have had their heads up their butts about Sonic 4, green eyes, spike pits, and other trivial miscellaneous nonsense.

Good find and sourcing, man. This was interesting to watch.

(if more people helped with Sega Retro this sort of thing would be more common - Sonic material naturally occurs when tackling the bigger picture)

also this footage is pretty much as I expected it to be. Aside from "Metal Sonic moves about a bit" it doesn't really tell us anything new. Neat though I suppose - too bad they had to talk all over it

This clip really helps with my recreation project quite a bit actually, especially with how the buildings were placed and giving a better look at the backdrop textures.
I don't think I'll be re-creating Metal Sonic's clunky looking moves though lol

What strikes me about that footage is how high the frametate is. They really did have the boss engine running smooth as butter!

That was much faster than I was expecting. Good work!

Really wish they'd zoom in more to the screen, or better yet just cut to footage rather than merely showing it playing on a TV. Better than nothing, though :v:

Back then, the only way to get footage was to either have the dev system there and record it on a connected VCR or to record the screen.

I don't think Sega was going to allow a VCR at a small expo just for a Canadian kids show.

Yeah after dissecting it frame by frame its impossible to use as reference from such blurry images to re-creat textures from. However I believe the buildings themselves are billboard polygons that always face the camera. Although again its kind of hard to tell.
It does give me a little better understanding of the background layout though. not sure how usefull it will be. I cant quite pull off any camera matching this time because of the camera man's porn video style camera angles. lol
I'll figure some kind of use out though....Wish it were as clear as the game-fan screens ! perhaps something new will show up in another 15 years....(perhaps the video that was used to take the actual gamefan screens from will surface)

Now if we could find video, or better yet the disc, of that Nack boss fight. That's probably the least seen portion of the game as far as coverage goes.
