I just saw this post on Assembler and thought it deserves its own topic since maybe you guys can find something.

I really wish I could get my hands on copies of this show called "The Anti-Gravity Room" because there was an episode where the host played the metal sonic level for a minute or two. It was a Canadian-American co-production by YTV and the Sci-fi channel mostly about comic books.

Anyone remember this or have any way of finding it? Sounds interesting.

My Quotes from IRC:
http://members.tripo...b/episodes.html I found a page that's kind of old... at first, in my hast, I thought it had an episode guide, but it turned out to be some of the topics that were talked about in the show.
If anyone finds an episode list we can probably narrow down the search to a specific time period. I watched a few episodes on Youtube and saw a few game reviews like Battle Arena Toshinden. This game came out in 1995 so that episode is too old for sonic xtreme content...

Edits for episodes checked:

There's no doubt we'd be looking for an episode released in '96. If I had to wager a guess as to when I'd say not long after E3 (May 16-18). I'll try to dig around too, I'd love to see that footage. Dunno what our chances are here, so hopefully some day we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Some old guy like me probably has an old dusty VHS tape sitting in some box somewhere oblivious to what he has in his position.

Found it (kind of...)

http://web.archive.o...rav/show31.html

It's an archived version of The Anti-Gravity room website with an episode list. This episode seems to fit the bill.

Quote

Episode 31: Fun & Games.

Fun & Games is what it's all about. Ron Bertram told us about the Nintendo Powerpod, Jim Ward gave us the scoop on TSR games and we went to Gen Con to track down Steve Wieck to chat about White Wolf Publishing. We also found stuff to say about Skybox Game, Vivid Reality Systems and the latest new Sega games.

According to this Sci-Fi broadcasting list, this episode likely first aired on Saturday September 7th, 1996 at 11:00 am EST, fitting our time frame perfectly.

1996 Sat Sep 7 11:00 am The Anti-gravity Room - Episode # 31

Additional info:
Archived episode list
Alternate episode list (less helpful)
Sci-Fi channel airing schedules
Archived Sega website (not the least bit useful, but still entertaining)
Official Anti-Gravity Room email address: [email protected]

Andrew, if you have the time (and assuming the email address is still in use), do you think you could send them an email regarding this episode?

Anyways, I hope this helps!

I get a feeling that's just a generic tag list like you'd see on youtube for videos related to gaming.

I just tried using the contact page on YTV's website to see about obtaining old episodes of their previous programming. I'll be lucky if I even get a response.

Hope no one else trys to contact Nick Scoullar because it could cause us to lose a chance at the video.
Quote from sentient.com: tweets were made even favorited by Nick....than deleted...

I tweeted Nick Scoullar (my first tweet, 180 chars is not enough btw), he seems to use that account quite often so we'll see if I get a reply.
I always seem to enjoy my odd visits back to Senntient, though I admit, I mostly lurk, heh.
Edit: Heh, Nick Scoullar may have it episode 31...
Edit 2: He's gonna have a look! Haha. Still a long shot though... probably.

Somebody on IMDB said they tried this and didn't get a response. It still can't hurt for you to try though. Good luck! I'd love to see this clip. God speed Andrew and Shoemanbundy.

I got a response from YTV and it was a generic standard email they send out to anyone that messages. Absolutely zero response to my question, it was just filled with other FAQ stuff like "How do I get on a YTV show?" I never will understand why places like to isolate their public like that. :argh:

It's like Christmas came early for Andrew. If this turns out legit it'll be another great find. Do we know anything about how the boss operated aside from Metal Sonic being in an arena and being xbox hueg?

Hell yeah 1 month early ! Hope the footage is useful!
I did speak with Christina Coffin threw some e-mails regarding the Metal Sonic boss fight controls a few years back.
I really didn't want to share this info publicly till I made a boss engine release with AXSX. ( I did share it on Senntient.com in the past)
Anyways! Here is some of what she said in one of the e-mails:

Quote

The L,R triggers were set up to rotate the camera around sonic.
You could also press a certain button on the saturn controller to
'lock the camera onto the boss' so then all of your d-pad movement
would become relative to the boss character.

For example:
lock on mode controls:
left/right on d-pad lets you circle strafe left/right while facing the
boss (good for dodging projectile from mecha sonic)
up made you run towards the boss while the camera is still loiking at
him.
down made you run away from the boss while the camera still looked at
him.

As you can imagine, fighting the boss with the camera in 'lock on
mode' is very useful to dodge harmful things from the boss, and makes
it feel more like a 1 on 1 fighting game which is what I wanted.
Having the unlocked camera mode, where the camera stays in 3rd person
view behind sonic is also useful as well, so it depends on player
preference and certain bosses (I had plans for another boss to spawn
smaller enemies around him that you would have to jump/spindash into
and they go back to fighting the main boss)

Edit: Hope this is a nice early X-mas present for some of you guys, if you don't get the video you still get a little more info for the wiki.

That's dangerously similar to the Biolizard and its pink bubbles...
