Years ago I came across and purchased this big box collection of the 4 classic Sonic Sega PC games (Sonic CD, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic R and Sonic & Knuckles Collection). I believe it is in Chinese, but as I cannot read Chinese I can't tell for sure. I also believe it is an official collection as it contains a full manual and a large poster advertising other Sega PC products. I was wondering whether this was indeed genuine, and if so whether scans of it might be useful for the wiki? I have placed some photographs below for anyone who is interested.

That collection screams bootleg, right down to Tails artwork being included in the Sonic CD disk.

Actually, this brings a question to mind in regards to Sonic CD: Is that Taxman's 2011 remake of the game, or is it the shitty PC port from 1995?

Its the original. This collection was made in 2001, so long before Taxman's remake. (I have had it myself for between 5 and 10 years)

I don't know much about how authentic bootleg games tend to look, but looking at the base of the box there are a lot of copyright notices for a fake. There is also a URL for "Big Gamer" (presumably the company who made the collection) but sadly the website no longer exists, so I can't check it out.

EDIT:
Ok, the website is apparently still visible to an extent on Wayback Machine.

Well, if this turns out to be legit, then yes, scans of the box, disc, manual would be welcome on the wiki.

The wikis always need scans. Always

anyway

ISBN points towards a 2000-ish release date. Congratulations, you found a legitimate Sonic compilation for mainland China

also a Chinese distributor for Sega's PC range

About the language... my wife confirmed immediately. It is in Chinese. That right there tells me it is bootlegged. As someone living there, and I have shopped around, in particular for a Wii... I can tell you that ANYTHING video game related that they have is a bootleg. If I'm somehow wrong about that, then color me shocked... but I'd bet the farm that something is fishy...

EDIT - Ninja'd... and color me absolutely floored.

Thanks Black Squirrel. I will get onto making the scans as soon as I can!

Here is an example double-page spread from the Sonic CD section of the manual:

Please could someone who can read Chinese tell me what the title of the collection is for the sake of the Wiki article?

Here is a clearer version of the logo:

If you can, put the chinese name of the compilation in the article too. Chinese characters and everything.

I will see what I can do. Once again, it may be useful if someone who has the ability to type in Chinese could help me with this by supplying some text I can copy and paste.

I have now created a wiki article here. I can make any changes that are needed if we can get translations and Chinese text.

That was quick work. Looks good. Feel free to scan the poster I see in the first post, with the anime girl.

Ok, I will try my best, but I may have to scan it in sections and join them as it is larger than my scanner!

Do the games actually work - all the non-Sonic games on that poster appear to have been translated into Chinese - could be nifty if you're sitting on four undocumented Chinese Sonic translations.

My guess is they probably won't have bothered but it could be interesting

I haven't tried playing them to be honest, I only bought them for my collection. Although I seem to remember that I tried putting the discs into my PC once and found that the installers were in Chinese. I will see what I can do with regards to playing them later. Although, Sonic CD may cause problems due to the fact that the original PC version is notoriously difficult to run on modern machines.
