So I got a link to the iOS7 beta from a mate. He'd installed it on his iPhone 4 and was loving it, so I gave it a go on my 5. Used it for about 2 weeks and really like it.

Then today, the phone starts glitching, I used the timer and couldn't get it to close. So I switched off the phone... and that's where my real troubles started.

The phone wouldn't boot, it was just in an endless loop trying to boot then restarting itself. So I switched it off until I got home from work.

I thought "I'll just put it into recovery mode and restore" BIG MISTAKE, I've restored it, but now I can't use the phone at all because it won't activate - I don't have a registered Crapple dev account. I didn't have this problem when I updated the firmware and despite the whole net telling me I can downgrade to 6.1.4, iTunes says no "the firmware file is incompatible"

Looks like Apple have pulled the plug on downgrading, leaving me with an effectively bricked phone.

Any advice?

Oh and the kicker is: I(shit)Tunes is hogging the shit out of my PC's resources, even when closed. I have to close all the related processes in task manager to stop it using over 50% of my CPU. Fucking hate these products right now.

Go on, laugh at me :colbert:

Did you put the phone into DFU mode (possibly required, some people say it is, some people say it isn't)? Did you hold Shift when you clicked Restore in iTunes? Also, if you didn't get the 6.1.4 IPSW directly from Apple but rather from another source, you may want to try the links here.

Also, if you made any iTunes backups while running iOS 7, you won't be able to restore those backups to your device if you ever get 6.1.4 successfully installed.

Please note that this is only suggestion, I have no experience with iOS 7, and indeed don't even have a device capable of running it (iPod touch 4G).

Cheers, I downloaded the .ipsw for 6.1.4 from redmondpie but I'm re-downloading from the link you provided to try again. I've been putting it into DFU as it's been the only way I can initiate the restore process in iTunes.

I'm trying to find my phone's UDID without using iTunes (it doesn't show up in iTunes unless activated), but I don't know how to in Windows. Was thinking of paying a measly £2 to get a dev to register my UDID so I can activate, there's loads of listings on eBay offering this service.

Yeah, putting it in DFU Mode is your best way to go. I just downgraded back to iOS 6.1.3 on iPhone 4 through DFU Mode and it worked perfectly fine.

OK so I got it sorted, I paid a really nice guy £2 AFTER he registered my UDID and I activated my phone.

I still could not downgrade to 6.1.4 however, I don't know why. :psyduck:

Don't try to use a 6.1.4 IPSW you downloaded. Put the phone in DFU mode and just do a straight restore, don't specify an IPSW.

I think that upgrading to iOS 6 has ruined my iPhone 4 too...
