Some of you from PokéCommunity may already have heard of this hack, but I have decided to bring it here, as I want people that aren't Pokémon fans to try this. Or at least, people that aren't as familiar with Pokémon to try this. I want someone to play this hack, and view it as some random new RPG for the Game Boy Advance. I have been working on this incarnation of it since August 2012.

This is a hack of Pokémon FireRed Version.

Box art front: http://i1151.photobu...zpsc97b2c3c.png
Box art back: http://i1151.photobu...zps12cc8b64.png

This hack is a remake of the very first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red & Green. This is how I would remake them, and it's totally different from FireRed & LeafGreen. This will be a Kanto adventure you've never experienced, and it will be totally modernized, and fun. This is my reboot of Pokémon, think of it as a new Generation I. This isn't a Gen III hack, this isn't a Gen IV/V wannabe hack, this is Chaos Rush's Generation I game.

STORY: This world is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokémon. For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for battling. There are numerous mysteries surrounding them, and they are a popular subject of research. Either way, humans live in harmony with Pokémon, and they have done so for ages.

Meanwhile, three teenagers, two from Pallet Town and one from Viridian City, decide to travel through the Kanto region to collect eight badges of Kanto, and to take on the Pokémon League Challenge. The names of the teens are Red, Green, and Blue, and they each have received a Pokémon from Professor Oak. They have no idea what awaits them, such as an increasingly threatening crime organization known as Team Rocket. The three of them will meet many people on their journey, some helpful, such as Blue's older sister Daisy. They will also meet Kamon, a younger boy who claims to despise Team Rocket, and is always right on their tail. What are Kamon's motives? Or more importantly, what are Team Rocket's motives?

FEATURES:
*210 Pokémon available
*All 210 Pokémon will have sprites from my DS-style 64x64 Sprite Project
*113 new moves added. Over half of them are Gen IV moves, a few Gen V moves, and a few custom moves. No old moves were replaced, thus there is now a total of 467 moves.
*A few old moves have new animations
*Physical/Special split
*Important characters have their own battle theme
*Lots of redone music
*custom instruments, such as the church organ and the "orchestra hit" sample
*All 210 Pokemon have their moveset redone (new movesets are based closely off of B2/W2 movesets)
*Entire game re-scripted & re-mapped from scratch
*Map layouts and architectural design of the Kanto region will be based off of how it appears in HG/SS. However, unlike HG/SS, Route 23 will actually exist.
*And much more…

R/S/E-ified features:
*R/S/E style graphics (yes I'm serious)
*Removal of the stupid flashback feature to make it more like R/S/E
*Removal of first-person view artwork to make it more like R/S/E (and every single Pokémon game that's not FR/LG or HG/SS)
*You actually face the trainer when another trainer walks up to you
*Removal of colored-text based on gender
*Proper item fanfares, instead of being limited to the level-up sound

NEW GYM ORDER:
1. Brock
2. Misty
3. Lt. Surge
4. Erika
5. ??? (not Giovanni)
6. Koga
7. Sabrina
8. Blaine

My note:
When you play this game, I kindly ask for you to forget about everything you know about Pokémon, and to play this game as if it were your first Pokémon game. I don't care about your nostalgia at all, so if you play this game thinking of Red/Blue and FireRed/LeafGreen, you will be disappointed (or pleasantly surprised? idk). Play this game as if you've never played a Pokémon game before, and this is just some new RPG that you're going to try out. If you play this game hoping it will make you feel nostalgic about the original games, then you will be very, very disappointed.

Also, if you identify as a "genwunner", then you should probably never, ever play this hack, ever. You have been warned :)

So I played through. Ended up with Pidgey, Rattata, Hoothoot, and Wartortle by the end. I think I talked to every NPC and I won every battle.

I don't have too much to say other than I enjoyed it a lot. It's a refreshing remix on the original games for sure. Just a minor quibble though, would be that I found some of the more "adult" (adult for Pokemon, anyway) language kind of off-putting. Not like I'm offended or anything, it just kind of makes it feel more "fan fictiony", in those instances where it pops up. I found most of the script to be pretty fun and well-written otherwise.

I'm really looking forward to the next release!

This looks awesome, though I'll probably wait to check it out until it's a little closer to completion.

Sweet it's cool to see a Pokemon ROM hack, judging from the screenshots and the information you've posted I'll have to check this out and give it a go. :) I've been wanting a hack with newer moves, but never got around to really hacking any of the 3rd gen Pokemon games. (Or any gen for that matter, I've only hacked Blue version a tiny bit... it was nothing special just a text hack, I prefer to research the glitches rather than modifying the ROM...)

Thank you for playing it all the way through, I appreciate it!

In terms of the "adult" dialogue you speak of, could you name some examples? I mean, I might have used the word "crap" somewhere, but I also remember I made a Team Rocket Grunt say, "You're the first one who had the balls to stand up to us". I didn't intentionally try and make it "adult", I just ended up writing it that way without realizing it.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly what I was talking about, haha. Like I said, it wasn't really a huge deal, it just kind of snapped me out of the experience.

Am I the only one who's having trouble with the very first Gary encounter? I picked Charmander so he got Squirtle. His tackle takes away about 1/3 of my HP, while my scratch only does about 1/6. I can't advance through until I beat him, so I'm pretty much stuck.

This wasn't a problem with the original FireRed because you are allowed to lose that fight because it's a tutorial. In this it's a standard battle, so if you lose you are sent back home.

EDIT:
After several tries I was finally able to beat him.

I can say so far that the presentation has been outstanding. I really like the graphical enhancements. Besides the difficulty with Gary, the only problem I really have with the game so far is this:

I actually had a bit of trouble against Silver Kamon but I started with a Bulbasaur so Peck is super effective against it. :v: Anyway I really like this hack so far, I also love how you've added the fact that the old guy is hungover and not just upset because he didn't get his coffee. xD (I know that is what he says in the Japanese version, I'm glad you've translated it and added it to the hack.)

What's causing that problem is that I've updated attacks to Gen V standard, meaning Tackle is now 50 Power, while scratch is still 35 Power. In a way though, it kind of goes back to how in the original games, Charmander was "hard mode".

But for anyone having issues with the first battles, I put 3 Oran Berries in the PC. Use them wisely.

The rug is like that in HG/SS. The Kanto you see in DarkViolet will take a lot of visual cues from HG/SS.

Correct, me making the old guy hung over is not me "trying to be badass", I'm just restoring the original intent. Besides, it makes more sense than, "I haven't had my coffee yet so I'm going to lay in the middle of the road!"

I ended with Charmeleon and Pidgeotto. Like someone else said, bit of trouble on Blue with his Squirtle each time but it worked out alright. One issue though...as soon as Charmander learned Dragon Rage and evolved...that was it, really. Basically made the whole "Charmander equates to Hard Mode" thing pretty moot. Didn't actually USE him again until the Pewter Gym (as I was evolving Pidgey, used Char in the Gym to catch up with the newly evolved Pidgeotto), but I probably don't need to explain how much of a breeze the Gym ended up thanks to Dragon Rage, though Onix survived the first one...just about.

Either way, I loved this. Was a great twist on Gen 1 and I like where you've gone/are going with it as a whole. Liking the music choices too, great work in all!

Honestly, this is the first complete Pokemon hack I've seen. =P Looks pretty amazing too, and I've been dying to try it, but waiting until I'm done with this playthrough of Pokemon Gold, (Thanks to Pokesav for letting me start out with all my favorites!) but I'm having a little trouble patching FireRed in advance. (As far as I know, it's clean without any ugly hacked in intro.) LunarIPS just gives me an image that crashes on startup, am I doing it wrong, or do I need a different IPS patcher? Doesn't matter if it doesn't have a Linux equivalent, every hacking tool for Sonic games that I've tried so far run through Wine just fine.

New release! Beta 1.0! http://www.mediafire...23373vpi9ppp24l

This goes right up to the entrance to Rock Tunnel. There's a lot of content, so check it out!

Also here's some more recent screenshots:
Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Please start a new save file. This will be the last release in which you have to do so! This is because the first time around I forgot to include the Fly flags to the towns, but they have now been added, so please start a new save file.

Some changes to previous content:
-Charmander family now learns Draco Bullet instead of Dragon Rage, which was way too OP
-Ruby/Sapphire textbox, to match the tiles a bit more

There will be a Beta 1.1 sometime soon which will allow you to obtain the missing Eeveelutions, as well as a new, R/S/E-styled remix for the Bicycle music, as well as any bug fixes that occur. The next release after Beta 1.1 will be the full game.

This isn't complete yet.

As for the patching problem, forget IPS, I noticed here on Sonic Retro that a lot of your guys's Sonic hacks just post the plain ROM. Am I aloud to post my ROM file here?

I don't see why not as you said it yourself we post ROMs not patches. I even released a ROM hack of Aaah! Real Monsters and didn't even think to patch it. :v: Also I will give this version a go once you post a link to the rom. :)
