I'm hoping this reaches the US. Until then, we got Taxman's remake coming out soon.
Sonic 1 to get the 3DS treatment. Out now on the Japan/US/PAL 3DS eShop!

Sega's pissing away money if this doesn't get a US release.

I would think Taxman's widescreen version would be a better base to wait for and start from, instead of releasing a letterboxed game.

This version has pop-out 3D effects though, so that's neat I guess?

Because if it isn't, Wow, wrong time to release this one SEGA considering it may kill the hype for the definitive S1.

It's not really clear what it is, but based on the page it doesn't seem like Taxman/Stealth's port.
Some interesting features are mentioned though, like the ability to switch between the US and Japanese version of Sonic 1. (Moving clouds in GHZ, wavy water, etc) Also it has the ability to switch the audio between MegaDrive 1 and MegaDrive 2. No mention of a remastered version like iOS/Android are getting.
It seems like two separate teams had similar ideas, but didn't work together.

This looks like just a means to establish the 3D Classic line of Mega Drive titles. Sonic 1 is hardly a surprising choice, other than SoA is already up to something with it.

Oh boy, the days of SoA/SoJ confusion are happening all over again! Cyclical history ho! Man those two need to actually get a proper line of communication going because damn, I will be amazed if this isn't a screw up. Unless of course the respective Sonic 1 remakes are restricted to the regions they were developed in. Then that would make sense... That would suck certainly, but it would make sense at least...
