I don't know, that demo doesn't look as good as the actual Star Fox to me. Yeah yeah, it's a demo but, it's a bit of a stretch to say the Genesis could run Star Fox, without the aid of an add-on or SuperFX chip considering that. This does lead the case that the two were pretty damn close in power way back in the day, though. Still prefer that glorious Sony sound processor, though. :v:

I suspect, judging from this demo and the quote saying it's unoptimised for the processor, the Mega Drive could certainly run StarFox - it might even be able to run it faster!... in some sections

StarFox is clearly designed to live on 10-12FPS or whatever the figure is - if the frame rate was reduced in the process to say, 8FPS... you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference (not as significant as the 60-30FPS drop you get with modern games anyway). It's going to run slow, but don't forget - StarFox already ran slow, and yet it was still playable.

it would be interesting to see this finished but I can't see it happening - far too much work to bring the entire game to this system

So... I wonder, has anyone tried optimizing StarFox SNES's code to see if it can run faster than it does?

From what I've heard in the repro cart scene I do recall that what version of the SuperFX chip you use affects the game's performance... it'd be interesting to see.
