Sounds like the app this topic is about was developed by a different team than the original game:

Sad news all around. Their games were super quirky, and had a lot of love in them. In somewhat related news, Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno was just released on the App Store. It was developed by Polm Studio, and it looks kind of like Jetpack Joyride.

I wouldn't blame marketing here, hell, Sony and SEGA gave it away near release on PlayStation Plus in Europe! and I even tried to get people interested in the game, but the response I got was that people just arn't playing platformers with "different" style controls.

Different to what exactly? I don't know, but it's a shame, Hell Yeah! was a very enjoyable and the style was brilliant.

I don't think so. Downloadable games get a lot less marketing than major retail games, and Hell Yeah actually got a decent amount of marketing for such a game. Arkedo also made two small self funded games, and they ran out of money after those. Money also isn't the only reason for why they stopped making games.

So is this game still around or gone? Because that trailer looked epic! Easily a must buy game for me, if I ever saw one.

It's already out, that trailer was a launch trailer. iOS games are usually announced shortly before they're actually released.

I haven't played this one yet, since it doesn't seem to be on Android at the moment (GRAAAHHH), but if it's anything like the first Hell Yeah! game, it's kinda like a hyper-stylized Metroid game. Certainly more to it than a simple shooter.

Someone correct me if t hey lamed this one down to its most basic mechanics.

Doesn't look like it's a port but a simple shoot em up they made with the game's assets.
