Gearbox needs to stop inheriting the messes of others, though this is less excusable than DNF since it was actually their fucking game and they passed it off to other developers to do the work for them. DNF at least was more of a "For better or worse, thank God we get to see it."

Yeah, as TotalBiscut said, it was utterly irresponsible for them to not focus on something they were actually contracted to do and instead put their full attention on Borderlands 2 instead.
In the end, Gearbox fucked up big time.

Jesus fucking Christ Gearbox... While yeah, TimeGate appeared to have ruined this game, this is entirely Gearbox's fault for hiring those developers to finish their game. Normally I would be mad at a publisher for releasing a game in this state, but this game was in development for around seven years? They had an entire console generation to make this game? I'm amazed any major publisher gave them seven years to make this game, especially with SEGA's huge financial struggles.
I can't imagine how frustrated SEGA must have been when they witnessed what happened to this game...

While Borderlands 2 is a good game, I highly doubt they paid full attention to it. It's a game built on an engine and concept they already had. Besides that, they're a big studio. They have multiple teams working on games.
That being said, the people responsible for this mess deserve no defense for this. They lied about what their game was going to be like and deserve the flack that they're getting for this.

There's many people wondering if Sega can sue Gearbox for damages considering all this fallout.
I'm thinking they'll try to regardless of whether it'd hold up in court or not - this case seriously damaged the reputation of every single party involved.
The sickening thing is that Aliens was one of the "core" franchises Sega was hoping to prioritize over, well, various properties they ended up canning to keep their finances up. We could've got the multiplatform Bayonetta 2 by now, instead of this.

I've never seen a game so agreed upon as shit, and rightly so. They KNEW the game wouldn't be like that demo. It's just so irresponsible to release this!

I completed the game today. Yeesh. It came to an abrupt end, and the alien queen fights were laughable. I can't believe you can just hide in a box to outsmart it! I did play some more of the multiplayer and am liking it a whole lot more than the single player, the aliens are a lot more fun to use once you've gotten some upgraded attacks for them.
Also I had no idea about that character making a surprise return. I thought he was just going to be making a cameo. Just another ridiculous part of the story I guess.

So a tester at Sega of Europe may have leaked a bunch of stuff about this game's development: http://i1.minus.com/iTeTRho14DHI6.png
He was verified by Reddit staff to really be a tester, but still take this with a pinch of salt.

Another silly thing I noticed with this is the difficulty. I was checking my progress and was surprised to see that the game had thought I'd beaten several levels on the "ultimate badass" difficulty. I'd joined a couple of random games earlier, but it turns out you get credit for beating a level no matter how late on you joined in on it. Easy way to get the achievements if you don't feel like playing through the game fully!
