I don't know if this is the right topic for this place but I'm having a dilemma. I can get my 360 online via the wifi connection just fine, but for some reason I can't do that with my PS3. Any particular reason why this might be so?

Depends. Im going to assume your PS3 is a Wi-Fi capable model, so main issue could be that it thinks it's running trough a wired connection. Doesn't make sense, yeah, but that's what's happened to mine. Try doing another wireless setup and try again.
Another reason could be that your PS3 model doesn't come equipped with Wi-Fi. Is the console brand new, or is is it one of the old fat ones?

The older PS3s have fairly shite WiFi, if that's the model you have. Mine cocks up pretty often, but I usually just restart the console or internet a few times and the problem tends to sort itself out.
Is the signal coming up at all in your system's WiFi setup?

No it's one of the newer slim ones. So I'm not quite sure whats up. Also not only does the wifi not work in this place but the wire doesn't either.
And ya the wifi is coming up, it just always does IP time out or can't find DNS server (depends if I put a manual IP in or not)
