All I can say is good luck to you Robotnikclause, when it comes to fan games I'm very sceptical if fan games will ever be completed (S2HD didn't help either), but I'm rooting for you because I like 8-bit Sonic 1, it a fun game and a cool take on one of the first games I've ever played, that and I've beaten it about 10 - 20 times, I really should play the other 8-bit ones more.

The first piece of actual artwork!

You need to be able to view APNG to see the animation. Firefox and Opera support it by default, but Chrome users have to use this:

Nice start. Please do not feel pressured to create professional-level assets from the get go. Rough out the whole game first, I implore you.

The 8 bit project is now integrated with the 16 bit one. Everything you want to know about the 8 bit project should eventually be found on their forums. My forum is being discontinued soon as part of this.
If you were having trouble picking which side to support more, now you won't have to! This integration should kill the risk of arguments between our projects, and get rid of any mis-communication.

Simply doing what S2HD team tried doing is not enough. Upscaling and applying gradients and photoshop filters is no way to go about remaking a game in a higher resolution. And yes, that's what you're going for, don't even try to lie to about it.
Find yourself a nice artist who is capable of animating fluidly, and make a work of art out of this, instead of further crowding the fangame scene with more of the same.

This is a pretty unfair assumption. It makes us look really lazy. Most of our art is done in Illustrator, not Photoshop. Yes, the whole gradient thing was used a little too happily in S3HD, but that isn't our intention, as can be shown in this piece by Corral Summer, the lead artist of the entire project:

As you can see, his pieces of art are their own thing. No need to go around acting like we're just as lazy as the rest of the half done crap you guys have to endure around here.

First off, something went wrong with your quoting there and I'm glad I saw you fixed it before I finished my post because that would've been awkward.
Second of all, who said we constantly endure crap? Nope. S2HD, as flawed as the project became, wasn't total crap, it just kinda crashed. Nine posts of being here isn't really enough for you to safely make the assumption you did. Even though I haven't really put forth anything myself, I'll just speak for the people who have: Don't belittle us. You're making a really snobbish impression, and you are merely on trial right now, you know.
But the bottom line here is simple: I believe Lobotomy (and most of Sonic Retro, as hard as it is to tell) would really like a project to succeed for once, and I personally wish you the best, seeing as I enjoyed S1MS thoroughly when I finally went to play it.
Also, I'll say it just once more because I don't want to sound like a dick or like I'm forcing you to do it, but I really do want you to think hard on it: Please don't call the project HD, it's a term that can also be applied to S1MS recorded off a 4x-sized Master System emulator, which is an insult to your project.
By the way, that IS pretty sexy, although there is a little shrapnel around the blades of grass. I'll assume that's just transparency. and shit.

Sorry if I gave that impression, but all I could gather from that post he made was "Your trying to be lazy, don't even lie about it" which is pretty unfair, given that he probably didn't even look at the art these projects put out before hand, and as to the stuff here not being half done, I go by both S2HD, and S3HD. (especially the latter) In fact, S3HD really did look like it was made in the way lobotomy described. I don't know about S2HD, but the fact that it looks almost exactly the same as normal S2, coupled with the artist from S2HD saying that they really just use a secret shading technique of theirs....
I'm not trying to be snobbish, or anything like that, really! I just wasn't very appreciative of the generalization he made towards the project, probably without even looking.

Have I missed the link to the website? I can't find it anywhere.
Also Corral Summer seems to be taking on a damn lot. Not sure how many projects he is an artist of now.
Well, I never really like the 8 bit Sonics, but a remake (if done properly) could cause me to reconsider - so good luck!

Three. This, Sonic 3 HD, and an original game that has nothing to do with Sonic.

Yeah, you know what? I'm going to make a special rule for redrawn games.
Right now. History in the making, right in this thread.
UNTIL YOU HAVE A PLAYABLE DEMO AROUND, DO NOT POST ABOUT YOUR FUCKING REDRAW GAME I DO NOT WANT PAGES OF STUPID ART BICKERING
I have long stopped giving a shit.
