Anything new here? Forgive me for not looking thoroughly through this thread to make sure no one's checked Joypad yet, but all this links gives me headaches. Don't see any scans from Joypad(French mag) listed on the wiki anyway, so..

Hm. That "Sonic 2 CD" artwork seems interesting, I've never seen it before. Either way, is it just mistakenly referring to Sonic CD?

Joystick magazine from France. For a brief stint in the early 90s it covered consoles, but it's mainly known for being a computer magazine.

possibly juicy Sonic 1 stuff here. That Clock Ork shot is bizarre - rendering errors?

...and a Sonic 2 one, though it looks like a final build. Weridly I can't find a preview for this game... despite being one of the more notable releases from 1992.

Higher resolution version of that Marble Zone "mock-up" screenshot. You can almost see the individual pixels.

So has anyone considered getting money together to buy stuff? Right now there's a great auction on YJ for all issues of Beep Megadrive from 1990 to the end of '94, and it's at a fair price of like ~$120. Just a few people giving like $20 each or so would get it up pretty quick, then it's a matter of deciding who to have it sent that would absolutely 100% guarantee they'll scan them. I was thinking of getting it for myself, but have no scanner and in the end probably don't need that many magazines lying around.

Anyone up for it? Either decide now or in the next couple of weeks, if the auction is still there, I'll possibly just get it for myself and try reselling them for profit :v: I've been looking over loads of magazines and have been disappointed at the total lack of any JP publications, while there's hundreds of scans of lots of UK and US publications. Would be nice if we can get this magazines properly out there for the whole internet, as I don't see any Japanese communities ever bothering to scan anything any day soon.

I'd happily donate £5-£10 or something for this. The original topic with the Beep magazine shots was what prompted me to become a trial member, I'd love to see more pre-badnik enemies like that.

Naturally, this happens right after I make a big purchase.

I might still be able to chip in $10, though.

HEY GUESS WHAT WE USE SONIC RETRO DONATIONS TO DO

Edit: Seriously, we have been in the practice of using your donations to recover things for at least two years. The difference is that I usually don't release scans until after we've confirmed we can't actually GET those prototypes, as I don't want poachers essentially taking free prototype leads. We have more in-house than you probably think.

Did I strike a nerve? Or maybe I'm reading into it wrong. I'm not completely aware of donations and what this site has been doing with them, let alone what the present situation is for this specific magazine, so I wasn't trying to get in the way or anything. Since even the first post of the thread mentions investing in Beep and I know lots have been curious about it, I just thought I'd help out by making a suggestion. I guess I can assume now that the site has access to all of these issues of Beep, then? Otherwise I'm not sure why I'm being treated like I did something wrong.

One of those screenshots shows the spring extended out. The first time I saw that was in the ad where it wasn't ingame, but rather animated onto the game footage. Were the springs at one point animated?

Bumping this old topic now with new content. Topic title has also been revised to cover scans of other various magazine articles. The following scans came from my collection of video game magazines that I acquired for the past few years. Some of the prototype screenshots from off the magazine scans will be new while others will have been ones we've seen before.

Ace Magazine:

Ace45June1991(1).jpg - Sonic 1 Amiga.
Ace45June1991(2).jpg- Sonic 1 MD (Magazine front cover).
Ace47August1991(2) - Sonic 1 MD (the rest of the pages from Ace Magazine #47 have already been scanned and posted up onto the wiki).

Game Zone Magazine:

GameZone01November1991(2).jpg - Sonic 1 MD showing a very early prototype screenshot of Marble Zone (could be from around the time the Toyko Toy Show build was being showcased). We've got this screenshot on the wiki. However, this is by far the sharpest, most crisp screenshot there is of this particular screenshot. It also shows a better view of the level and the image isn't horizontally flipped.
GameZone01November1991(3).jpg - Sonic 1 MD showing another screenshot of Sonic in GHZ using the earliest variation of debug mode.

I also happen to have scans of Japanese articles for Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn) and Sonic Adventure from Dreamcast Magazine #6 (JP) circa December 26, 1998 if you guys wanna take a look. Too bad about the initial lack of attention then.

It's interesting to see all those beta 'Green Hills' shots from Sonic 2 SMS/GG!

Also some Sega Pro Sonic 1 SMS shots have different sprites! Nice!

Not sure where to post this, but I guess here should be fine?

One or two of you might remember me as the guy that uploaded the Anti-Gravity Room clip of Sonic Xtreme a few months back. The water heater tank in my basement exploded last week and, since then, I've been going through some of my comics that were packed away down there from over 10 years ago. I started scanning some of the ads inside and came across a torn cover of X-Men #2 (Vol. 2). It's the original Sonic the Hedgehog game ad.

Anyhoo... I noticed that there is one on the site (http://info.sonicret...ThinkFastAd.jpg), but I figured I would post the one I scanned in, which has been cleaned up a bit and [don't take it the wrong way] doesn't look like crumbled up paper. If anyone wants to use it, feel free to. I also have a larger .PNG file version at 3200x2100, if anyone wants that one. Just post here and I'll check back a little later and then upload it to google docs or something.

The power-ups in the monitors might count as gadgets. Who manufactured them anyway?
