Which makes me worry about the potential for "lock-on".
Why do you worry? I'm insinuating that in fact it's the same engine with a few tweaks here and there.

omg they basically announced an announcement of an announcement OF AN ANNOUNCEMENT. Zero footage, worst teaser I've ever seen, etc. I'm excited to hear the changes they're planning for the game but I basically don't care until I see any of it.

LIES.
The first one was worse, for two reasons.
One, we didn't expect to see no gameplay footage that time.
Two, what was eventually provided disappointed
all expectations. :P

I highly doubt there won't be a PC version. This all seems abit complicated though.. new engine and physics.. I can barley imagen Tails in Sonic 4 E2 unless they change the actual look of the game somewhat itself.

Either way they'd have to adjust level designs in E1 to compensate for the new physics, and that's just not something I see happening.

Worst case scenario they'd have to add some of those booster rings in the air...

Episode 2 doesn't need to lock on. Episode 1 was intended as a "complete" game unlike Sonic 3. Did you all forget about how and why "lock-on" came to be? At least they were nice enough to add in a mini game of generated special stages and Knuckles in Sonic 2. Back when they realized that they need to add some meat to the side effect of splitting the game into 2 cartridges. I'm so happy to hear about a concerned effort to fix the physics we've been bitching about since day 1. I am curious to see if the Sonic/Tails combo roll is real. I can't think of any other reason to show that. I wasn't surprised at all when we didn't get any actual footage in the trailer.
I'm happy as can be that I have an Android phone, the bad news is that I have to find $5 worth of something to buy on Wiiware now because of the way they sell those damn points packages :/
Btw, I promise I won't sue if there are some "soundalikes" of my music in the game....big headed, I know, but one can dream. But PLEASE let the music be at least as good as mine, if not better. If it ends up sucking, I'll release all revised versions of my Sonic 4 Ep 2 Music proposal to others as a download for their PS3/360 systems to cover up any possible feline fatalities.

Sure,
Episode II doesn't
have to lock on, but it would be good if it did—kind of a consolation prize for the prevailing disappointment in it round these here parts, and perhaps salvaging the good stuff from it and making it into something altogether more bearable. It would take a bit of work, sure, but I think they owe us that much!
Then again, the very idea that Sega would compensate players for their past missteps will look hilariously fanciful if it turns out that their advertisements are full of hot air and
Episode II ends up being more of the same with some tiny and insufficient amendments at best. Fingers crossed it'll be more than that, then.

S4E1 is considerably shorter than other Sonic games, not helped by the fact that it only has one character to play as. It's a regression from past games that would be really nice to see rectified. Splitting multiple episodes up into entirely separate games isn't fun for the player either.

Maybe not, but still. The problem with this trailer is that it doesn't even tease anything that we didn't already know or guess, which is a problem after they went all "get redy 4 the 29th!!11". They hinted at Tails' earlier, and we knew of Metal Sonic's involvement BEFORE EPISODE I WAS EVEN RELEASED. Amazing.

So... We're getting the same marketing crap we got with Sonic 4 Ep 1? Really? Douchebags... Will they ever learn anything from their mistakes?
Seriously, it's gonna be teasing, hype, then disappointments again.

No it wasn't. That's why it's called an episode.

How the hell would lock-on work for a downloadable game? What do you want them to do, REMAKE Episode 1 and have you fulfil some retarded criteria to play it in the "new engine"? Between the whole "new physics" and "new graphics" stuff, it seems pretty damn unlikely they'll just be able to plug Episode 1 in and hope it works.

No but really I hope that they at least try to imitate the Genesis games as close as possible instead of pulling another Generations where its fun but a totally different experience. And for lock-on I'm hoping they include the old Episode 1 levels built-in but only playable if you own Episode 1. Its all pretty unlikely but I can dream right?

Yeah that is a very good question, but I do hope they have some kind of way to "Lock-on" the Episodes together. I mean if Episode II really is improved over Episode I I'm all for it, but it would be nice to have gameplay consitancy with the gameplay. Like having the gameplay and physics of this new Episode with Episode I. It's unlikely but it would be very pleasing if Sega can pull it off.
