How about this? Original on the left. I made it more sonic2ish, for those bitching. I actually like this edit a lot.

I really like the one on the far right, I think I like that you got rid of the darker color right below the eye on his cheek. He seems a lot less shiny but not a muted color

Yep! Far right, but I gotta say man that the massive hands and feet don't look very good, it looks like he's wearing clown shoes and baseball mits. In fact that's probably why I'm not keen on the Sonic 3 sprite. If you reduce the size of his hands and shoes, it will be spot on.

What they said. It looks S3-ish to me, a bit like a hybrid of that and S2 actually—not a bad thing! Great edit.

I haven't been around for a while so I'm a little out of touch but in terms of Sonic Classic I say do what you feel you want to commit to. I'm all for Sonic Classic 2 for sure but if you don't feel up to it, I would suggest holding off. Theres too many unfinished fangames that had a lot going for them.
In terms of the sprites I'm going to have to agree with everyone else, farthest on the right is definitely superior.

Also, for the sake of mentioning it. There is a shrink monitor (allowing you to walk on water) and a giant monitor (allowing you to grow and smash things). May post a video in a while.

Very Mario! I guess the shrink monitor also enables travel through narrow passages and the like? Colour me enthused.

Reminds me of the growing monitor from Chaotix. I was just wondering when someone would do that.

Remind me again, were you using Worlds for Sonic Classic and would you be continuing to do so for this if that was the case?

I actually like the middle sprite best. Looks less chibi than the right one, and more dynamic in style like Triple Trouble had. Maybe its because you didn't soften the speculars so much, which is more accurate to the original art style. Also the quills aren't as fat and his eyes are more narrow, which is closer to the Sonic Jam boxart style. Which reinforces why I love the middle sprite so much more. If you add the darker shading around his torso, then its perfect.
Don't forget, Sonic CD had a shrink laser lol. Will you be incorporating the frustrating platforming challenges that followed it, or will you spare us the torture in place of fresh new challenges? Also, we can't run on water from sheer speed? I was hoping for that.
