Fast shitty Photoshop.

I think it would look better if changed to be more like this.

And look, we're already Photoshopping Sonic to suit our precise specifications! In just under half an hour's time, too. Way to break the fucking sound barrier you guys.

Would I get shitbombed if I were to say that it really doesn't look all that good?

I did. :P Nah, it's not as bad as I implied previously, but it doesn't grab me very well. There's too much focus on gradients and shiny-shiny, much like Sonic 2 HD. I prefer the more detailed/realistic graphics of pelikan's fangame.

I can see that they were trying to make a full-detail version of the Sonic 3 sprite, but IMHO it leaves much to be desired. I suppose it does look a bit like the models from that game and S&K's title screens, but in any case I've never really liked those.

So as not to sound like I'm complaining too much, this will still be worth keeping an eye on, and having a read through the original topic.

No, we're an angry bunch but we can be civilized, and we know how to respect the opinions of others.

While we use gradients on things, we use them properly. This thing, aside from that nice sky and death egg, is using them to a rather poor effect. As for Pelikan's 3-d game, that thing is a clusterfuck of scenery and looks like it was dipped in a goddamn vat of gloss. That being said, I do still like some of his art assets.

Not by me. I'm not at all a fan of the glossy vector gradient look, the foreground needs a lot of work and the overwhelming solid black shading looks abysmal and makes absolutely no sense, but it's still good enough for a poke from me. I'll wait until some semblance of an actual game begins to materialize before I start whining.

That Sonic is nigh-flawless, though. Criticism on that front makes my pimp hand bristle.

Nah, he's definitely doing a better job than you guys.

I wonder how long it took him to get this far? Less than a year, perhaps? That'd be magical.

I love the living shit out of this! Seeing things like this pop up everywhere is both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

And yes, the model needs a little work. But I'm gonna save my cuntish words for people who deserve them, like Sega.

Eh. I don't think either look at that great but I dislike the American version of Sonic's appearance in general so that doesn't help. >_>

It looks ok, Tails' model bothers me. Can we have a sprite look at that up close like Sonic's? There are probably more problems with it than I can see from the tiny perspective right now but what pops out at me is; His muzzle is too thin, needs to be raised (and made more canine, like his official art) his color is too brown, needs some red tint, his eyes are too circular, they need to be longer, browns more raised inward and slant sownward as they go out, pupils are too small, that's a bad position for his Tails by the way. Try basing them off the frame that came before it so they don't appear stretched. I don't know why everyone does that frame for them, that's not the one where they're relaxed. And he nas no smile. If one is added, it needs to be in the middle of his mouth since that's where classic Tails' smile was. (See: Sonic The Fighters) (again, refer to the Japanese official art, not that monstrosity that was AoStH Tails. (Shut up Fanboys, you all know that model looked nothing like Tails. At least American Sonic was the right color and still resembled Sonic, the only resemblance for AoStH Tails was having two Tails, even his shoes were wrong, just look at the DVD. The rest looked more like a squirrel.)

Background looks nice but needs more colors and less abuse of the Burn tool (which is how this looks now) and the foreground needs to look less like a vector of an 8 bit Nintendo game or a papercraft but this is good for a mock-up. Certainly miles ahead of Sonic 4's art design if only because the classic models are present.

I actually love the vector shading, it's very contemporary, if that word can be used, I don't think realism should entirely apply to art direction past making things look like the source material and move correctly.

I have problems with the Tails model but I really would like a sprite view of it, it looks better than anything else, certainly better than whatever you would call S2HD's Tails mockup, this one reminds me of the older S2HD mockup, which looked more like him.

I like your photoshop better, American Sonic is a really bad reference to go by unless you're making a game based off SatAM or something, but it's better to go with the better art direction for anything else. (And by "better" I mean "Wasn't photoshopped from Mickey Mouse or drawn in our god-awful Toon-style which looks awful on Sonic and makes his proportions all off.)

Naw dude. Even for Assface, that's bad.

Incidentally, that's the first time I've noticed how closely the S3 sprite's shape is based on S2, particularly around the top, though I suppose there are only so many ways to sprite the same character.

Really, I just don't care at all for the model, if this effing thing is really a game and it is released someday...

With good gameplay, level design; I will play it, and love it. And I do think it looks good.

Makes sense when you consider that Sonic 2 had the best Sonic sprite ever, trying to replicate it's perfection is evident from observation.
