It was a very low-quality game for the PC, not sure if it was official or a fan game or what. The title screen played the theme song from SatAM, and one of the levels (I think the first one) was called Robotropolis Zone. (Yes, I'm aware the original SRB had a level by that name, but I don't think it was that.) The music for that level was the music from Flying Battery Zone, I think Act 2. I'm pretty sure I remember it being on a CD (in an orange envelope?) but I'm not sure.
Need help remembering name of old PC Sonic game

I think I remember that! Did it use a weird mixture of Sonic 2 and 3 sprites?

It doesn't sound like an official game, but I think I vaguely remember something like that.

Was there this robotic camera/eye thing following you around at the beginning? I vaguely remember that -- I played a ton of Sonic fangames in the past.
Here's a thread listing a few SATAM related fan-games.

I don't know if it's the game you're referring to, but there's a game called Techno the Hedgehog that sounds a bit like this.

No, it's not Techno. The first level of that one is called GUN Facility (or something to that effect) and I believe the game has all original music.

Maybe it's the PC version of Sonic Epoch Advance? (Don't remember the name, though probably just Sonic Epoch)

The only SATAM fangame that comes to mind is Sonic Nebulous. It's probably not it though. :P

dude, this is the game that got me hooked on fan-gaming. Please, PLEASE find this game. It would always glitch after a half-assed flying battery type level with a golden electric shield.

That's being reported as an attack page. Weird...

If you ignore that warning and try to load the page anyway, the site tries to force a Trojan download upon you. All pages on emulationzone.org seem to have this trojan, and in my case, blocking the trojan automatically stops the pages from loading.
The URL reveals that the name of the fangame is Sonic 2000, but unfortunately we have no wiki page for it and there are no alternative mirrors available... unless you start digging with the WayBack Machine.

Through this, in a roundabout sort of way, I've cobbled together a safe download link from the original source; simply bypass the Attack Site warning to download it. There's a 3D Alpha available in the same way too. Hopefully this is what you were after!

I thought the verdict was that SOST didn't have a trojan. It was just messed up.
