Oh, stop panicking, you. The project isn't dead nor dying. It's just so completely hidden to the point where some people begin to become paranoid. It'll be fine.

As long as nobody slips us a mickey, I suppose we should be fine...

You are not really helping by posting that. If you feel like this project is doomed to die, you will join all those people over the decade who has predicted the Sonic Community to fall. It never happened.
I'm not predicting this project will die. I'm predicting this project will take longer than necessary to complete. Take a look at how the art deadlines aren't working. I have faith you will complete this project, I'm just saying it's not going to be easy.

That said I am still interested in knowing exactly what libraries and tools you are using to program. If you want people to contribute their code, let them know this so that that they can show you what they are capable of. After all, what good is code written in C++ using Qt if the project is in C using GTK+? How do you know if the contributor even knows Qt? If you can disclose the libraries and tools you use, that'd be a start.

When a mother feeds her baby, she expects the baby to shut up so she can go back to what she's doing: a fair return, if you ask me.

No, a mother feeds her baby because she loves her baby and wants him/her to be healthy and happy. You make it sound like a dreadful waste of time, and as though you have no care or respect for anyone.
Okay that wasn't the best analogy to use, do you have any better ones? =P

I'm not the only one who thinks OPF is "killing" or "ruining" the project. I do think this, but there are others, and those others is what encouraged me to make that addition.

So, are you still considering opening up art contributions for another zone?

Its been quite clear that staff has no concern how long it takes to make the game. They just want it to be at the quality they expect it to be at and nothing less.
The problem with that is impatient artists that don't want to deal with their antics and work flow that they give it a shot and move on with their lives when they see that the project isn't moving.

Again, we all know it is. But we don't see anything.

That is a bad idea and shouldn't be done. Nothing is stopping anyone from doing artwork from other zones and just posting it when the topic opens.

I'm getting really sick of repeating myself here.

S2HD will not die. It might take years more for it to get finished, especially people sit around because they don't feel like contributing to one of the current goals or worse yet, as Andlabs pointed out, complaining endlessly that something isn't true to the original sprite -or- the exact way the original designers had in mind. You know who you are. Keep it up, and you'll find yourself completely ignored by both the community and the staff. Building on that, we have had people completely overlook or ignore the guidelines and tutorials we've put up to explicitly help people with the art process. This needs to stop.

I've issued an open call for programmers. When someone has something on the code side they'd like to contribute, we want to know if their level of experience and past work includes things that can be relevant to the project. When those prerequisites are fulfilled, then I'd want to get them into a dialog with LOst to ensure compatibility with the current engine.

I'll be out of town all this coming week with limited internet access. It's pretty clear that the goals intended first for June 1st and then the 15th will not be met at this point. When I'm back, I'll post up the progress report and announcement for what the project's next step will be.

Reasonable progress has been made lately though don't you think?. Perhaps not in the form of finished work... but things are at least moving along now (slowly). If anything, at this point I just wish we could reach out to more artists (ie. from deviantART and the like). Aside from the staff there are only a few who are really contributing any art at the moment. Are there any efforts being made at all to advertise the existence of the project?

Okay if I sound like this project will die then I apologize, that isn't what I want to get across at all. I want to see this project be completed. I guess I am impatient.

Okay, I'll repeat myself now: what exactly is relevant to the project? What language: C? C++? Pascal? Python? Ruby? COBOL? APL? And what libraries? DirectX? OpenGL? SDL? BSD sockets? Allegro? GDI+? OpenAL? Quartz? Core Audio? ALSA? GNU portable threads? Is version control being used? Which one: CVS? Perforce? git? Subversion? Mercurial? What is the design of the object event system: multithreading? Callback functions? How can I judge whether or not I can make a contribution to this project if I don't know these basic requirements?

I know this probably isn't on the agenda now, but for water in levels like Chemical Plant Zone and Aquatic Ruin Zone, has anyone thought of using effects similar to the ones used in New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

*video*

I would like to point out the sun glare where the sun presumably is.
Also, having transparent liquid everywhere sounds REALLY interesting. I mean, wouldn't it look cool to have the CPZ tubes translucent? Since it would make the background a blue sort of color, it could almost seem like a portal to a more pleasant world, not the hot and nasty orange world of Chemical Plant.

Already done.

The sun effect can't be used because it breaks the design of Sonic! The water however, is one of those ideas that Mario was first to use, and Sonic stole it, So it is just right to use the newer Mario water techniques for Sonic 2 HD.

Are you saying that Sonic 2 HD will have water similar to this Mario version presented in the video?

- Original pixel faggotry needs to be explicitly crushed by the head of the project, since no one is listening to the multiple staff members like scanline99 and Cerulean Nights who said that these people (and no, I can't expressly say who they are because that kind of statement wouldn't be right)

You can suck my dick. Thank you.

PS: I hope it's ok to attack directly somebody who has done the same publically.

Sorry that I had to do it, but I didn't want to attack you directly. There are a few people on IRC that point to you directly, though, and I can see where you're coming from and why you want to do this. I personally don't like it, but if there are people doing the art that do like it, then do as you will.

I'm going to lay off the OSS fight for the duration of the project. I'm sure there are other people who want to fight, but I have better things to do at the moment.

However I still want to know exactly what the requirements are for contributing code to the project as Canned Karma asks us to do.

Just interesting to see this fights which are not necessary! Andlabs, you did start something that you now want to back away from. Was it for this projects best, or to make drama?

As for ICEknight. I rank him so extremely high up for advice, only Yasuhara and myself are above. That has to do with how ICEknight has operated over the same time as me in the Sonic Community, and he has the same experiences as I do.

Oh, True Dude asked about effects, and not about the water. Then I have to reply that THESE kind of effects are the only ones available on 3D hardware. So yes such effects will be used. And the water will be used too (might be slightly different to be simular to Sonic 2's).

You know, it could just be me, but I'm pretty sure this was the General Project Thread—not the General Dickwaving Contest thread. Everybody needs to work out their own little personal grudges and keep things civil. This is not some sort of competition.

The problem is that everyone has a different idea as to what's best for the project. In regards to the open source software, I read your post and took it into consideration, and yes you have a very strong point; but I decided to stop talking about it because I have a project of my own and continuing that fight would have just wasted not only my time but also yours.

As for the OPF, I had written the original post in response to several people on IRC, and yes, my wording and the jab at ICEKnight were wrong. I apologize to him as well. However, though I still hold my idea that it's not the best direction, after talking to and listening to several people both in this thread and on IRC, particularly Gambit, I decided this is an issue best left to the art staff.

I really don't want to fight, but rather talk and listen. At this point I really don't have much else to say, so I'll see you when the next update comes or when you have something to say to me.
