That DOOM modification is "Sonic DOOM II: Bots on Mobius" and was the project A.J. Freda (aka SSNTails) was involved with prior to the Sonic Team Jr. stuff. I actually designed a couple of the levels in SD2BOM. If it's still up somewhere, take a look at Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Oil Ocean (though I don't remember if I ever finished OOZ or not.)

And regarding Sonic Boom, yeah it was certainly the first fan game. There were no fan games of Sonic before it or for a while after it. Classic game, I remember it well!

EDIT: Yeah, here's Ice Cap -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKe8KZM-GIc

That's some very cool information, I liked how the Ice Cap zone was made! smile.png

I never played this fangame despite the fact that I used to play the very old ones. My favourite fangame was The Search for Knuckles.

There is this old DOS Sonic fangame I played once. I think it was called "Spinball" (no relation to Sonic Spinball, or even pinball), although I may be wrong. In it you ran around various what I think were dungeons. Does anybody here know what it is? It's really been bothering me.

Another person who has played Spinball!? I am probably the only person other than you who remembers it.
Yeah, you ran around in dungeons and stuff, and got rings, and jumped platforms. It wasn't very Sonicy, and it didn't have any sound apart from the old PC speaker, but it was a good challenge and fun to play. There was the Metal Sonic boss that had a really simple pattern but tended to be hard to kill (and I remember dying a lot, where blood would splatter around a little and the screen faded out) I remember that it wasn't actually finished, like after the dungeons it had a single water level and that was it.

I probably still have it backed up if you are looking for it.

If you have it then yes, could you please upload it? I have spent a long time searching online for it. smile.png

Speaking of old fangames (Sonic Boom and The Search for Knuckles IIRC can be found on the hall of mis fame section of the SFGHQ), anybody remember/have Knux CD?

Just added a list of the references. (It may be incomplete) I hope nobody minds.

I do, but I can't remember much. I played my fair share of Sonic fan games back in the day. My favorites were always the Sonic Chaos games from AytaƧ AKSU. Remember when Sonic Chaos Revolution was pretty much the best Sonic fan game around? Oh, and there was also OMNI Khaos. That game was pretty cool too.

There are plenty of Sonic fan games I remember from back then. Sonic Fight, Sonic Brick, Tails R, When Tails Gets Bored, and let's not forget Sonic Mega Quest staring Pip the Bat. Ha ha, those games sucked pretty bad. Thank goodness for all the progression the fan gaming scene has made over the years. Now we have stuff like Sonic Nexus and Retro Sonic XG, both of which I prefer even over the official efforts.

SK Collection was 1997, so there were no sprite rips without an emulator (although Sonic 2 sprite sheets existed.)

And no to Metal Knuckles -- that was 1997 also.

Sonic & Knuckles Collection came out in 1996 according to the copyrights on the box. There is the possibility that "Mecha Knuckles" may be a reference to "Metal Sonic".

Looks too similar to the real Metal Knuckles though.

Also I assure you, before reading that on the wiki I used to think that the game was released on 1998 (which would make sense). Now I don't know psyduck.png

Well I have no recollection of when It was released. However, your logic does make sense, so I will change it.

I think I know from where the 1996 year comes from: the version of TGF used is from 1996.

Also I checked the setup file modification date: January 24, 1999. I guess I wasn't that wrong.
