Speaking of this, has anybody tried getting the patched Revenge of Shinobi ROM already?

Nope, but I went ahead and did it anyway.

Here you go. smile.png

I guess I can take requests, heh.

Done. All three versions, Japan, Europe, and USA. I tested them in Snes9x and they work alright.

The USA and Europe roms are identical for the most part except for one difference.

Also for the sake of note taking - the ROM data is loaded in the aram, not the "ram" ram. Guess that's why I didn't post these before, heh.

Oh my fucking god.

I just wanna check out what changes they supposedly made to the title, since nobody seems to have noticed any, yet the patch makes mention of them.
Guess what. Turns out they edited the ninja's face in the intro, so that he doesn't resemble Sonny Chiba anymore! :O

Left original, right patched:

Looks like they really wanted to avoid any possible copyright infringements this time. Thank you so much for this dump.

Is there any likeliness that these can go in, say, no-intro?

Not sure, but I'd like to see them included.

Also - anymore requests? I can even see if there are differences in games if you guys like, even if you're not sure if there are differences to begin with.

Oh yeah I just remembered. Since Phantasy Star 4 actually has bug fixes, I decided to get the patched roms out as well.

Also going back to what IceKnight said, is the EU version really undumped? If so, I included the EU version again. The game was released in Europe, but I guess nobody cared enough to dump it? Might want to bring this up with someone who can include it in a rom set or something.

Knowing no-intro, probably not, since they didn't come from carts. They refused to add drx's huge proto haul for that reason.

However, Dyna Brothers 2 Special is on there, and that, to my knowledge, came from my Virtual Console rip. There's also a growing number of other VC rips that are probably gonna end up there, like that new NES Donkey Kong with the Pie Factory level.

Also, none of the Seganet stuff was ripped from actual carts IIRC.
... and this is all before I get into complex Satellaview issues.

Really, I think they just don't want to throw an amount of prototypes up that rival the amount of actual retail games.

Time for another bump, but.

Even though it's not Sega related, Chrono Trigger is coming out in EU VC before July, even though it never saw an official release in Europe in 1995/1996. Which reminds me, I noticed that most of the time games that are released on the EU VC that weren't previously available in Europe on their original consoles often use the American versions. However, that could always change I suppose.

With that said, are there any games that are in the same boat as Chrono Trigger? Like, never released in Europe originally but finally saw a European release thanks to Virtual Console? I'm interested in seeing if maybe they do use heavily modified or alternate roms.

Also, I'm still taking requests to examine games. Has anyone noticed anything in newer VC releases that are different from the original games? I know that VC releases are becoming less and less now a days, but there's still a lot out there that can be checked.

Super Mario RPG, for one.

Actually, there are a lot. They also released Japan-only games. When they first started, they usually had a special week called Hanabi-Festival, and the next 3 updates were only imported titles.

As far as I remember, so far they released:
Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa
Break In
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
Cho Aniki
Columns III
Detana!! TwinBee
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy II (it's the American FFII. It's actually FFIV, and the description mention this fact)
Final Fantasy III (same as above. It's the American III, so it's actually VI)
Final Soldier
Gley Lancer
Gradius II
Gradius III
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Lode Runner
Mario's Super Picross
Milon's Secret Castle
M.U.S.H.A.
Ninja Gaiden (this was released in Europe, but with a different name. The rom on the VC is the American one and runs at 60hz)
Ninja JaJaMaru-kun
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
Pulseman
Puyo Puyo 2
Sin and Punishment (some text was translated)
Spelunker
Super Bonk (like Ninja Gaiden, this is the American rom. It had a different name in Europe)
Star Parodier
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II

There are probably more, like a version of Street Fighter II, but I can't remember which one right now. Lately import titles were also released outside of Hanabi-Festivals, although they still make them some times.

Well Chrono Trigger is out for everyone except for Europe, and for some reason the Japanese version is only slightly different from the original (only a few changes here and there when comparing both roms). The American versions are 100% identical to each other.

I imagine Chrono Trigger is something that's been hacked to death, so maybe someone will be able to find the differences. Here are the ROMs.

Since I'm free from school till the fall I should have time to check out those other games.

Sorry for the huge bump, but... has anybody here kept track of all these alternate Virtual Console ROMs?

I lost most of them in a hard drive meltdown and just noticed that some of these don't seem to have ever spread outside of this post, so they remain undocumented.

But if there's some place where they're being shared, please do tell. Thanks.
