Greetings, I am a newbie hacker. I would like to do some hacking with the sonic games. Games I'm interested in hacking are: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, S3&K, Sonic R PC, and SADXPC.

for Genesis sonic I would like info on:
Basic 2D game terminology
Editing programs(and how to use them)
Compresion formats
Pretty much anything to help the beginning hacker.

For Sonic R all I need is a way of editing wav audio, and raw images(please not photoshop I found it way to hard to use)

For SADXPC:
A way of editing wma
Editing PVMs
Info on what file is what

Thanks in advance for any help.

For those who have Sonic R PC attached is my first hack for it. Just extract to the general folder.

Attached File(s)

W00t! You're asking for a lot of info, but before I go on an write something that will explain this in full detail, have you checked out ShacNet, and Sonic Stuff Research Group? They're great sites with tons of info.

Shacnet:
www.shacnet.com/

SSRG:
shadowsoft.dyndns.org/ssrg/

They're filled with Hacking Guides as well as tools. You're favorite tool, however, will be a standarcd hex editor. Like, for example, Microsoft VS 6.0, or WinHex, or HexWorkshop.

Well for SA:DX we have a PVM unpacker, but not a PVM repacker. .WMA files are just audio files right? Shouldn't be to hard to convert MP3 format to .WMA format. Also, for the record, we have been able to get any character into any level now, and replace sonic in story mode with metal sonic. We are also able to change gravity, enable debug mode and other things by editing the memory of the game.

Genesis games:
One word (not really), four letters: SSRG

Sonic R:
RAW images: Try Corel Photo-Paint.
Sound is coming up later...

SA:DX
Not many websites about this, except SSRG's message board.

Sound:
I suggest Sound Forge XP. I have it, it works great. I may upload it for you to have.
