All 30 pages were worth it though!
Twelve.

1. While I understand how important the Sonic 1 Beta is, I wonder why you look for it! Besides adding it to the collection, is there anything in there of significance? (like wood zone in sonic 2, etc)
The significance is what was planned and never added.

2. Why was there a 5 month pause on this whole topic? (kinda strange)
Because Sutter is a moron.

so my only question really is, are there any "secret" or "incomplete" levels that are supposedly in the sonic 1 beta, and if so, how do we know?
We don't know, that's why we want the beta.

Hi, I was browsing along another forum and they claimed to have the sonic beta rom, so I downloaded it and played it, the color is all wrong and not all levels are there when you enter level select, I thought this was a hoax, since the levels look way to complete to be a beta, so I went to the soundcheck menu to lacate the sound files of the levels that where taken out, but strangely, I didn't find any taken out music bits the music from the left out levels just aren't there. Also the levels are in another way of comming to you and the music is in the same order (at the level select menu, set the soud to 80, from 80 to 85 it only sounds those sounds in the correct order, not from other levels)
I think it is worth looking at :

I don't think it's a beta. All the levels are near perfect and yet the game still resets after completing the first zone. Surely SEGA would have fixed the resetting if the rest was fine?

I can say without uncertainty that that is a hack. Why? Filesize. It's 519KB. A Sonic 1 beta would be 512KB or less.

Why? All the other Sonic games are higher in filesize, why wouldn't a beta be?
Thinking about it, they took quite a bit out of the beta for the final, so if it was in there, it would have affected the file size. Am I correct or is there a definate reason why the filesize would be 512kb or less?

Yeah, from what I've seen, this seems to be nothing but a simple palette hack. Doesn't seem like enough to have anybody fooled.

Got to fit it onto a 512KB EEPROM chip.
