I got a file which went right up to $1FFFFFF, so you must have a duff download.

Anyway, analysis of it in a hex editor (since after the checksum is fixed it just gives me a black screen) seems to indicate it's exactly the same as the final.

The file I downloaded is also 2Mb. Everything after 0x80000 is zeros, which is why the ROM doesn't work.

It works for me, but it's slow as... something really slow... since it's 2 600 MB files. I'm on the 3rd file, luckily, which is 54% done as of 8:00 PM.

Anywayz, I'm posting a *working* version of the Sega Smash Pack 2 Sonic 2 rom and my "findings", which aren't really findings at all. Here goes:

The *working* SSmash2 Sonic2 Rom!!

Here's the interesting parts:

Posted Image

The one on the left is my version, and the right, is the original from the cart. The clear parts, with the lines that connect to eachother, is data that is exactly the same. The yellow data is for the original rom ONLY, and the red data is for the Smash 2 rom ONLY. Data that is black with a line to the other rom, is relocated data.

The most interesting part of this, is that the rom I dumped, the smaller one, works flawlessly, even though there is 1 MB of data (seen in the yellow at the end of the original) missing! (Not sure, but maybe I added that excess data. I don't remember! :))

EDIT: Okay, I *think* that that "extra" data you see on the end of my rom, is the HPZ excess data IPS thingy that so you can play HPZ in the final Sonic 2 rom. Interestingly enough, you notice that some of the added HPZ data from my original (modified :P) rom is present in the upper portion of the Sega Smash Pack 2 Sonic 2 Rom. (Don't quote me on any of this, unless, of course, I'm right :P)

Other than that, as you can see, it's EXACTLY like the final, just with a few pieces added or moved.

And sorry, no encryption key yet. :) Oh, and unless the Smash Pack 2 rom is compressed, the rom will never have that excess data at the end like the original rom.

Ummm... about that SADX: PC download... the files are in .mdf format. I've read that I have to use this thing called ISO buster to convert them to .bin format or something, but then how do I play the game?

Never mind, I think I've almost got it working anyways using ISO Buster, but I'll have to burn a couple of CDs...

(Sorry about the double post) All right, I've installed the files and all that after burning the files to two CDs, but when I try to start it up, I get a message (in Japanese, although my computer tries to show it in English) and the only readable thing is "CD 2". I tried it with both CDs, too!

Did you already go through the setup, or did you just burn them to CDs?

Blue screen in the back? Ah, that's the Copy Protection Screen. If entering CD2 doesn't work, then, you need to do as I suggested before and download Alcohol 120%. The executable is packed with SafeDisc 2.0. I just kept the images on my HD, and used alcohol 120% to mount them into virtual drives. Alcohol emulates safedisc, and they'll work perfectly.

No, I've installed SADX and Alcohol 120% (I did that beforehand), and SADX installed fine, but when I try to start up, it has a splash screen with a picture of Sonic, and an error message. I'll show you:

EDIT: I tried what you said, and I think it might work now... thanks!
