1:

I call it Spiny.
There are two different versions.
Both look harmless at first, but become dangerous as Sonic approaches.
The first attacks at Sonic when he comes near. It grows into a ball of spikes, and then does a spindash along the ground. If you jump over it it should be easily avoidable.
The second attacks when Sonic tries to jump on it. It grows spikes all over it (like the Spike power from Kirby games) and hurts you if you touch it. Spindashing at it can take it out.
2 and 3:

Boss and Badnik.
The boss is on top. I wanted it to be sort of a fusion between the GHZ boss and the Mushroom Hill miniboss.
I thought of three forms for it. The first is like GHZ mode, where it goes back and forth swinging the axe around. Jumping on top of it hurts it. The second is like a helicopter. Touching it from the side hurts you, but hitting it from the top is fine. The third is a sort of "Eggman Spindash" move where the axe spins around him and he bounces off the edges of the screen. You can't hurt him in this form, but he can definitely hurt you. If you curl up in a corner of the screen, you should be fine.
Badnik: Aquaphant (WIP name)
Basically, in its idle stance, it stands and swings its trunk around. When sonic comes near, it starts sucking water up through its trunk. It then spits it at sonic, knocking him away. Whether the water actually hurts sonic or not is your choice.
What do you think?

I call it Adamis. See first page to see a better version of your badnik.

fixd.
It could shoot anything it wants in any level. Water would just push Sonic back where-as lava would obviously hurt him. This would make a perfect standard badnik.
We now still need:
[x] Flying > Tucan from Kamon62, simplified
[x] Plant > King Sling
[x] Basic Enemy: Liquiphant goes here, especially in the jungle-ish stadium
[ ? ] Insect > Cocoo (?)
[ ? ] Pirahna-like: Bubba Shrimps (?)
[] Monkey: ...
[] = empty
[x] = filled
[ ? ] = in case there isn't any better idea
ATTENTION: WHEN DESIGNING BADNIKS, PLEASE USE ONLY 1 ATTACK PATTERN.

Goes up and down a tree, then flaps its wings and emits a buzzing noise, accompanied with a force field of sorts.[/quote]

Erm. S&K had two enemies in the very first zone, which were designed to knock Sonic back without hurting him.
Sometimes the challenge doesn't come from the number of times you get your arse spanked, and I like the idea of a robot using natural resources to frustrate the player.
EDIT: Duh, wrong game...

Whilst this is a decent idea for a badnik, it reminds me too much of the buzzers in Mystic Cave zone, and God knows how much I don't want THOSE in the first level.

Kind of like the Sheilded Orb guys from S2/3, only not nearly as cheap. I'm looking at YOU, Invincible Launch Base Zone Black Ball things.

They're damn annoying as Knuckles, though. D:

Furious, the monkey-bot.
I wanted to discuss the curves in which the coconuts fall. What do you prefer: 1, 2, 3, all three or each coconut a different curve?
Or how about a pattern left-right-left-right? Argue-time :3
On a sidenote, Liquiphant has come to completion in conceptart and attack pattern.
The distance of the liquid shot at you will be determined when badniks and level design cross paths. Same goes for King Sling.

Rather than having the monkey shake the tree why not have him sitting at the base, then when sonic arrives he rushes up the trunk where hes explodes sending coconuts/bombs out in an arc. This makes him similar to the egg bomb things of SBZ and saves the effort that would be needed in order to animate a shaking tree.
And for the elephant, how about having it standing near the edge of a pool of water and rather than shooting directly at sonic every now and then he sticks his trunk in the pool and boils the water. We need more defencive style badnicks as everyone seems to design ones that actively attack sonic. This new attack method provides some variety, do you rush through the water in the hopes of taking it out before he heats up the water or do you wait untill hes stopped then attack.
Obviously this style of attack would only work on small sections of water, not full blown water levels.

GREAT IDEA! Instead, we only need to animate a monkey climbing up a tree.
No bloody way.

You are right on the fact we need enough defensive badniks. I always worked around the suggestion the elephant worked exactly as the windblowing rooster in Sonic 3. Plain water does not hurt you, just slows you down. If you're running over water, that would mean sinking and being obliged to take another (underwater) route. We are also able to make small ponds, by the way.

This is why you talk to animators before making assumptions.
We don't have to actually animate the monkey climbing up the tree. Rather he can get a surprise look, run behind the tree, and then make a giant leap to the top. Once he lands, he can explode.

I can't recall an enemy in any first stage being like that.
