With my lack of coding know-how, I never thought I'd start a thread in this forum, but here I am.

Introducing....................

Promotional art by SWTJ

DM Ashura of DDR fame has been working on an idea for a Sonic fan game for quite some time now, and during December, came asking for artwork. I accepted and here I am, trying to help him get it off the ground. He's got an engine going, which I'll provide a link for in just a bit. The premise here is that Dr. Eggman has deemed Metal Sonic a failure, and creates and Egg Robo 2, which challenges and bests Metal Sonic in battle. You know where this is going, Metal runs into Sonic, there's a standoff, and then the two join forces to face a common enemy. The player will face his/her adventure by switching back and forth. Sonic is built for mobility, while Metal Sonic is more on the offensive.

Here's a link to the latest build.
Controls are Z to switch, X to light dash (Sonic) and fire projectiles (Metal Sonic), and C to jump. The latest build has shield powers, which work for Sonic like they did in Sonic 3 (gold shield gives Sonic the Homing Attack). Each shield also gives Metal a different weapon. You'll see. I'm actually playing with them right now.

We've had a little team working on the project for a while now, but we need more spriters. While I don't mind providing my art, I'm by no means a spriter. We have someone on characters and all that, but we need Zone art, as in tilesets, gimmicks, etc. Here's a bit of what we've got so far...

Sonic's Sprites - by everyone listed

If anybody's interested in joining the project PM me, or AIM me (my username) or DM Ashura (AstralAshura).

This sounds just like the plot for the hack I'm not making anymore.

Edit: Now suddenly the link works. Why does this always happen :p

I remember checking out the Sonic World's engine myself before too. I assume that's what this is made in. This engine demo runs pretty slow on my 1.7ghz pc though, can't imagine why. I hope you actually get someone to sprite out whole new levels though as it looks to be promising if it gets anywhere :(

It's not WORLDS, it's DASH (or XMas, as people often refer to it as... incorrectly, might I add)

Looks quite good. Egg-Robo 2 Looks quite intresting in concept and design, though you'd better not SEGA on us and make Robotnik lose control of him.

I would offer my services in the art area, but I'm not all that good, and I'm sure you'll have had much better artists to choose from.

I have to say, the engine test is very fun; I especially enjoyed finding the super-speed and gravity direction buttons. A very interesting game concept, some great art to back it up, and definite contribution on my part.

I would comment on a bug I found in the test area, but it only happened because I was screwing with gravity, and the tiles didn't like it.

Is it just be, or is the download not working?

Very nice idea, by the way. Art looks awesome!

In later releases, can you add joystick support?

Sonic's Sprites, by deebs

I think it would also be a good idea to give credit to ALL the people on the side. I'd say just the ones you used the sprites by, but it's unspecific. =P

Isn't being called a contributor more important than just being given credit? (and technically that's being given credit anyways too)

I like this engine. It is one of the best fangame ones out there I'd say. The sprites are also amazing and look like they should be used in a Sonic 4 if Sega ever made it. :)

Also, I love the way it says "WTF are you doing?" if you continuously spin while running around the circle.

You're probably right, I just credited deebs, since that's who posted them, and I was told she made 'em.

If you mean why I didn't credit people for all that concept art, it's because that's just my shit.

EDIT: Nvm, I get what you mean.
