UPDATE 06/04/09: http://forums.x-cult...?showtopic=4503

It's been no surprise lately that we've been having some issues with uptime due to server load. When this happens, the IRC basically gets flooded with a ton of "waaah, my penis"-esque messages.

That's getting really old, so we finally have a solution! What we want to do is take our MySQL databases off CulTNET, where they are currently hosted, and give them a dedicated server.

Q. Won't that slow down Retro, though?
A. No. It should be no different, and most likely a bit faster.

Q. What kind of server would this new dedicated SQL server be?
A. Depends on what we can realistically purchase after donations.

Q. How much is this going to cost?
A. Once again, depends. This obviously would be a recurring cost, so we'll need to budget for it.

Q. I hate Sonic Retro and I don't give a shit so why should I donate? :)
A. When we overload CulTNET's databases, we take down all of CulTNET with us. If you enjoy any other facet of CulTNET, it's in your interest to make sure we don't have to use its MySQL resources and force downtime as a result.

Q. I want to donate but I have no money. Can I annoyingly post about how I'd donate if I could?
A. Don't waste your time.

Q. Where do I donate?
A. To donate, Paypal [email protected] In addition, seeing as Saz helps us out tremendously by letting us use his hosting, please also donate to [email protected]

Q. I don't have Paypal because I am underage/hate banks/a rebel without a debit card. Halp!
A. You can buy a prepaid Visa card either from a bank or major box store (in the US or Canada, at least—not sure about other places) and use that to make a Paypal account.

Q. Do you accept other forms of payment?
A. Shoot me a PM and we'll talk. I'm pretty flexible.

Ahahahahaha.

I sent $10 for each account. With the $30 I donated last summer, that makes $50.

I'll have to give myself a PRRRRRRRROMOTION!

I just wanna be a God.

I'm getting paid this Thursday, so I'll see what pain I can dish out.

Come on Christmas bonus.

I sent $40 back last summer so if that hasn't been used up yet there's that. I should be able to send another $20 or so in about a week.

Because this is the only Sonic site I like, and I'm a faggot who just can't let go, I'll pitch in.

But first, I think we should at least have an idea of what the monthly bandwidth or startup costs will be. Surely you have a reasonably close guess as to what that is if you plan on moving, right? Could you give us an estimate?

If I lived in the US I would donate but... since US$1 = R$2,50 and the minimum sallary here is US$160 (I live in a semi poor country! =O) even if I made a donation of R$ 10,00 it would be converted to US$ 4,00... Sorry =(

I could certainly donate some money, but I'd like to know exactly where it's going first.

See, what happens is SS has two budgets in her life - one for this place and one to get herself absolutely trollied on beer and fags. We'll call this second budget "booze" for time.

So when it comes time to renew subscriptions, or in this case, purchase a new server (or whatever the correct jargon is, I am not good with computer), if SS does not have the appropriate funds in her Retro purse, she must transfer money from her booze funds in order to make the payment. Alas, this leave SS with less money with which to hospitalise herself, and so she must make up the extra cash somehow.

Enter Retro.

So basically, SS has always been able to make payments on time, and we do our bit by making sure she can stay nice and drunk benevolent.

Hope that helps! :D

I'd like to buy some of these magazine archive discs (Mean Machines/Mean Machines Sega and Sega Force, most notably.)

I have scans for every issue of Mean Machines/Mean Machines Sega. They're probably still available on Underground Gamer.

Need a UG invite, then—I'd go on IRC and ask myself but their ircd thinks my IP is a proxy.

Apparently my ratio isn't high enough to invite anyone.
