Not sure if this is in the right section, but I found some interesting videos on YouTube of some mods of the 3D engine made by Mark and Damizean. They include new models for different characters, and a few different stages. You may or may not have seen them, but I figured it's worth mentioning just in case... The guy makes a new video like everyday:

Sonic in Lost Jungle-type Stage
Tails in Lost Jungle-type Stage
"Ashura" (impressive model!) in Lost Jungle-Type Stage
Eggman in SA2 Green Hill Zone
Sonic in Altitude Limit-based Stage
Sonic in "Burning Sands Zone"
Sonic in Wave Ocean-based Stage
Next-Gen Sonic in Custom Green Hill Zone
And finally, just for lulz.

He has a few more videos as well, but I figured there wasn't much of a point in showing you characters A-Z running through the Lost Jungle-type stage. Each character has custom animations - Blaze even does her "twirl jump" thing. This shows that even in its current state, the engine is very flexible and functional if and when used correctly.

Watch this turn out like EVERY OTHER SINGLE Sonic 3d project, just watch. If you even dare tell them it will fail because they'll realize how impossible it is to get a good sonic engine with a 3d game maker program(or hacking over some other game, whatever it is they're doing), they say "you don't know that" only to then announce that "Oh, it was too much work". I've witnessed this several times. No one EVER comes through, and I've found this to be a pretty good fact.

Seriously, not even that project S thing at the Sonic X-treme community is alive I bet. 3d+fan community=too lazy and never comes out with a complete product.

Edit: And one more thing, is anyone else tired of everyone wanting to imitate the new sonic? With his hands going in back of him when he's running. I think this looks so stupid and I don't get how it has such an appeal that everyone, even spriters, try to imitate it and put it in their games. Every replica I've seen done of this imo awkward position always makes sonic look stiff and generic, like it wants to show off that it's an amateur job. But I may be alone on this :P

It looks like shit anyways (not saying I could do better). Nex Gen sonic models suck dick. End of story. Voices for the lose as well.

What godawful cameras. The character takes up almost a quarter of the screen!

Hmmmmm, the effort going into this is nice, but it doesn't look so hot to me.

I couldn't even watch the first video up to the end. The model, the stage and the engine, doesn't look good at all. But what killed any chance that I'm going watch any of this again is that crappy voice Sonic has. Also, why Sonic should go "Whoa" (with an enormous lag) every time he hits a spring?

Engine still looks like it controls like shit. Hope they're still working on really tuning that.

I love how in all of these videos, the levels are designed to be so damn linear and boring with large portions of the level involving running through long tubes or long narrow areas instead of trying to do a level with more branching paths.

I would bet the narrow pathways = them trying to recreate platforms you run on in the 2d games, which obviously by now has proved not possible to replicate in 3d

2.5D for the win. Seriously, go 2.5D, and you can keep using those "Narrow pathways"

I still prefer this map(It's not a mod I think, because it was done by the team).

The Ashura model made me lol, mostly because I was the co-designer of that character for Ashura: Dark Reign.

It was nice homage, even if I have lost all faith in that mod.

Anyways yeah I actually KIND of liked Green Hill... But the movement seemed hella wonky, as did the camera, and really it looked more like a generic platforming engine with sonic graphics stuck in and none of the little nuances that make it Sonic.

You just used a red texture on Sonic.

I hope that's just a parody hack, because I seriously think texture swaps are on the same level of horrible pallete swaps for the 2D games.
