Hez, this is looking stupidly awesome. I love the look you've gave and where the project is heading.
A small review:
Hazel Hills. Classic, still nice art
Ice Caverns. Amongst the best on your bunch, I specially like the underground parts
Luster Lake is FUCKING GREAT. I thought I'd never be able to see good water level hacks again.
Dusty Hills. Not bad, yet not appealing. Perhaps kicking something new might make it better, or some custom art, like in most of your other levels
Mystic Mines. Looking cool so far. No comments.
Music Mania. I'm really up to see what can you come up with! Try it not to be a Sonata bloody clone =P
Robot Rave. Wow, finally that fat ass bald dude built a cool fortress! :shocked:
And about the questions, if you still need opinions
- HUD: Make it like this <if possible> number of rings on hand/number of rings collected/total rings (includes superring boxes) AND at the end of score tally, give 25000 if all rings were picked or 50000 if all of them are in your hands :D
- Mystic Mines art: Try doing what drex suggested you
And about bosses, maybe later. Perhaps something comes to my burnt mind tomorrow.

He happened to go through the part of the level that isn't finished. If you go through the proper places (the actual finished part of the level) theres a background before it (kind of like EHZ's brown glowy background part) so its not noticeable.

I'm a little confused... are all the levels going to have new bosses or is it going to be a mix-up of old and new? I mean, I'd be all up for some new, intriguing boss fights instead of the tired, predictable ones... perhaps I could contribute some ideas if permitted? I don't really have any hacking skills or anything but I'd at least like to take a shot at helping a project somehow, despite how little the part may be.

I had to quit for a while for school, but I'm working on it again now. I am redrawing a lot of graphics to make it look better now. I suppose I could release screen shots of it since its mostly reworked, but I was planning on waiting until it was near 90% done. Now that I've decided to rework the graphics its only near 40%.
