Honestly, when I first saw this hack I thought there'd be a little mood whiplash between the classic Sonic aesthetic and the Castlevania mood you're going for. I was wrong and this whole thing is super awesome. I especially love the new level art and how you revamped the ring system! Keep up the good work. I'm expecting great things from this hack!
In general, I'd say that any with attacks which can only be avoided by knowing beforehand what's going to happen or by sheer luck.
Please don't adjust the bosses. For Sonic veterans like us it's extremely refreshing that the bosses are an actual challenge instead of just wailing on them until they are dead. In particular I LOVED the act 4 boss with mickey and go swapping between really quickly. The fact that there is infinite lives / chances to learn the patterns should make it playable for people who can't handle it first go anyway. Keep up the great work. I haven't smiled at a rom hack before and this is goddamn amazing.
I didn't find them luck based at all. The patterns are still short and easy to follow along? Once you have the pattern down it feels really tight ...
Best Castlevania "fangame" since Castlevania Fighter. I did my best to avoid damage from bosses while ramming them with i-frames when I did get hit and they seemed reasonable. 5 HP is good enough for Sonic. The flying viper boss did seem like one of those where Sonic could get bounced into attacks because of bad RNG, though. Only boss I took more than two tries to beat was the pair of armors since it takes some trial and error to figure out when they're vulnerable (and the only way to test them out as Sonic is with direct contact), but once I did it turned out they're some of the easiest to no-hit-run in the demo. Looking foward to kicking Shaft's ass once the game's done. Edit: Here's a no-damage-run of the bosses.
If I'm not good at fighting a boss, this is always a thing for me. All that says is that the boss is difficult, not that it's inherently unfair.
Yes absolutely. EDIT: I did get a crash on my 2nd run through, thought i'd take a picture to help out. Real hardware, Megadrive 1 VA6. During an early boss
Every enemy in a game should have a strategy for defeat that doesn't rely on i-frames. Seems like this game manages that tho.
I played the latest demo version of Hellfire Saga and I very loved the atmosphere of the hack. I liked the art and sound elements. I will wait for the full version.
