That's fascinating. And it's just that one image? I see it's been edited from 1998 to 1999, but they kept the calendar table the same - so it's gone from being a Sunday - Saturday format to a Monday - Sunday format.
Those old scans skipped most things - pretty much everything that wasn't a story (and which hadn't been printed before). (which is why we totally need new ones)
Actually I have that exact same shoebox still, I can take photos of the sides as well if you like, and mine actually had shoes inside. My memory isn't great but the shoes had that holo 3d plastic on them with 2 images or something.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BQ096OPg-8G/ ^ Amy and Tails are stock art, but has this Sonic appeared anywhere else? From the art style it looks to be around 1997. ^ https://www.instagram.com/p/BRJ5CIvADPH/ Some photos of the 1998 calendar. EDIT: Oops, looks like these are the same ones on Sonic News Network.
Interesting that looks like the JP Sonic 3D Blast art, which I think is the guy who eventually drew the modern Sonic artwork. Damn that hybrid art is perfect, I still think the redesigns were unnecessary. Although that's one wonky ass hand drawn there.
It's got a very early SA era Oshima look to it. But that Amy in the background is VERY stock-pose-Amy.
The poster definitely has an Ohshima vibe to it, but one thing that stands out is Sonic's gloves having a single cuff. From Sonic CD onwards, Ohshima drew Sonic's gloves with double cuffs. Other artists didn't get the memo though - compare Ohshima's Harmony cover sketches to the final versions, for example. It kind of looks like Satoshi Okano's work. He did some Sonic Jam art and the illustrations for the JP release of Sonic 3D. His Sonic had single-cuffed gloves. Apparently that one Sonic Jam/Sega Saturn Magazine illustration helped inspire Sonic's new look: https://twitter.com/okanotion/status/1123206727359389696 https://twitter.com/okanotion/status/1123406991336960000 Who would have thought that an obscure off-beat piece of promo art would have had such a big impact on the direction of the series?
I was wondering, have all the unlockable illustrations from Sonic Gems Collection, etc, been ripped from the original files and uploaded/documented somewhere, outside of the isolated "this pic of X came from here" mentions? Excuse me if the answer is obvious but I can't find those anywhere.
They were on CulT. I still have the file converters if needed. These were ripped from Gems collection.
Is this a legit Eggman gif? I'm leaning towards yes, but I'm honesty uncertain. Found here, but I think it's a site run by a banned user, so, like, no intent to stir controversy, but it is what it is.
Hi everyone, a couple weeks back, I managed to obtain issues 1-5 of the elusive SEGA Jack magazines! I've scanned each cover at 600 dpi, which you can download here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pVM8L-XqHq02u8O1DzMndDemF1h2fnjc
