Hi Retro - bit of an odd request, but I thought here seemed like the best place to post it.

I've had an idea for a silly video involving some Chu Chu Rocket graphics/sounds, but can't for the life of me find any graphics/sound rips from the DC version of the game. Is anyone on here aware whether archives of textures/music/sfx from this game are out there on the interwebs anywhere?

I also own the PAL version of the game - if rips don't already exist, is it possible for me to rip the assets I'm after from the GD-ROM myself without having to invest in any specialist hardware?

Thanks - any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated! = )

EDIT: Bugger, posted in the wrong section - apologies! Could have sworn I was in the SEGA Retro subforum when drafting this; that's what I get for posting from my phone for a change. Any chance a kind mod could move this to the correct section? = )

Have you tried extracting the assets from the Shockwave version (.dcr, not Flash) released around 2001? Those might be more easy to use since there are tools readily available to extract. If that version isn't easily available anymore I can upload a copy. It had all of the single player levels from the original Dreamcast version.

I'll take that as a no? The Wiki doesn't even mention the Shockwave version. I think it was a demo or something, but you could play the entire single player. I've uploaded it here:

Feel free to document it better. I know the original source was the Japanese website, but I don't remember who was responsible for packing it up for offline play. I've kept it through various hard drive backups over the last 18 or 19 years.

Edit: I see the timestamp on the files is February 2000, that is definitely accurate. Didn't expect the timestamps to survive multiple hard drive transfers, since I actually kept them unzipped and just zipped it up now. Slightly older than I thought. It seems to have been a promotional demo for the original Dreamcast version based on the time.

Thanks for posting this - not been able to look into it yet as life is rather busy, so sorry for the lack of a prompt reply...!

The sounds/textures I'm looking for are basically all related to "Cat Mania" - it's been basically a decade since I last played Chu Chu Rocket so I can't remember whether that turns up in single player mode or is a multiplayer-only thing. If the former, I'd imagine I can find what I need in the Shockwave version you've posted; if not, I guess I'm back to asking whether there are existing rips anywhere, or a known way of ripping assets from the DC version of the game.

Cat Mania voiceover is used in multiplayer only. All of the music was CDDA, so that's just a matter of getting a rip of the DC version for it.

I haven't looked, but I'd expect the sound effects in the DC version to be stored in a standard format that's already supported by existing tools. It's a Sonic Team game after all, and we have tools to handle their other stuff.
