I found two pieces of information I wanted to share, let's start with the small one, although the Arabic dub of Sonic X (MBC3 version) didn't change much, it did change some small things, like the name of Froggy, he's the only character to have his name changed, and it was changed to (ضَفْدُوع) Which is a play on the Arabic word for frog (ضِفْدَع). The Chaos Emeralds names were also changed to زُمُرُّدَات الهَيُّولَى,which means The Hylé Emeralds, and Chaos is never adressed by name, they always use something like المُتَحَوِّل which means shapeshifter. The other thing I want mention is Toony Town, an event that was organized by Spacetoon, and happened in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, more specifically in Panorama Mall, it lasted from June 17 to June 21 of this year, here some images According to this Image that was posted by Spacetoon , there were 3 other places were part of this They were in: Dhahran, it lasted from June 26 to June 28 and it was in Amwaj Mall Jeddah, it lasted from July 4 to July 7 and it was in Andalus Mall And Abha, it lasted from July 12 to July 14 and it was in Aseer Mall
Yeah, one of the best Sonic suits I've ever seen, actually. It's hard to get the proportions right when the base is an actual human, but somehow, this works.
So, I was going trough Spacetoon's official twitter account for nostalgia purposes, and I found some Sonic related stuff I wanted to share: These are announcements related to Toony Town Also, there's more images from the event itself with other characters other than Sonic And here's a video from another event called Riyad Shopping Festival https://twitter.com/SpacetoonEvents/status/1022487811667230721 Also, this
Worthless Sonic 2 prototype screenshot of the day: Eggman landing vertically in Emerald Hill Zone Act 2. This will be from late-1993-ish too. Wakey wakey Sega of France.
Amazing that you could tell -- I had to go check because in the final game, the buggy comes in from the right at the same rate as the ship, so the two remain vertically aligned anyway. But in that one screenshot, the buggy is already at its final position, which means the ship should have landed by then. Nice catch!
This just popped up on my Twitter feed - a nice scan of some sort of flier related to Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car: https://twitter.com/ARCADE_LAB/status/1026429387170832385
Something mildly interesting about Gamma's profile on the old Sonic Battle website. かつて一羽の小鳥を助けるために記憶を失ったロボット。 Google translated: A robot that lost memory to help one bird. The in-game story doesn't shed much light about how much of a connection there is between Chaos Gamma and the original, so this is a neat tidbit.
Just a random observation I noticed this weekend that doesn't deserve it's own thread, heck, it might've been mentioned and I missed it. Many UK-based folk will know the Sega Europe offices in London that pass you on the way into the city on the M4 motorway. It has a Sega logo on one side and an image of Sonic on the other. For many years, it was Modern Sonic , but some time in the last 12 months Classic Sonic has regained his rightful spot. Whether this is temporary as a tie-in to Sonic Mania, or evidence of an internal paradigm shift is up for debate.
Huh. That's weird, I never knew Modern was even on there. I've got a photograph taken on the 7th of July 2017 when I went to London on a coach trip and it has the Classic shot that's there, so it's been over a year.
I remember passing by SEGA London yearssss ago in like early 2012 and I remember the modern Sonic up there. But eh, the change is for the best :v:
Super interesting and a very positive sign of good things to come. It does look like Mania had a huge impact on Sega - so it's awesome to see evidence indicating that notion is true.
I'm fairly sure it had Adventure (or Advance) artwork on it the last time I saw it (which was many moons ago). Was actually on the night bus from London heading up to Scotland a few months ago and was hoping it would pass by. Alas it didn't.
This site (in Indonesian) contains the places were Sonic X aired and there respective channels https://fathurrahmanpringgatama.wordpress.com/2010/10/06/69/#respond
After weeks of research, I finally confirmed that Sonic SatAM had an Arabic dub, I saw postes and stuff on other forums and websites saying it's true but finally this makes it 100% real, here's the Arabic opening of Sonic the hedgehog, also known as سونيك القنفد السريع الجزء الثانية which translates to, Sonic The Fast Hedgehog Part Two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcBlQJRxC9g Unlike Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, this one is really close to the original, the lyrics , for the most part, have the same meaning except describing Sonic as really smart, instead of having an attitude Edit: I also found this which seems to be a DVD with Episodes of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog
I've had some success finding odd things in Indonesia before, so I had a quick glance to see if "Sonic DVD" would come up with any results. hmm. p.s. an easy way to work out what Sega Europe looks like is to use Google maps. Case in point: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4909248,-0.2912747,3a,75y,63.39h,113.22t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1se21nOkhPwjlG8M6Opa374A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 In April 2017, it was modern Sonic. Also note to my future self (or whoever gets there before me) when the wiki stops playing games: http://rowlanddesign.co.uk/projects/sega.php it's great when you accidentally find who designed Sega's offices 20 years ago.
I note with some amusement that the opening sequence is entirely untouched - right up until the victory celebration at the end where Sally kisses Sonic. Oh Arabia...
Continuing the trend of talking about Sonic The Hedgehog cartoons, I found that there is an even earlier version of AoSTH, before it aired it on Spacetoon, it had a completely different opening and different voice actors,it aired on a channel called بسمة (Basma): (first 10 seconds are off-topic) Another point I want to mention is that in this version and the Spacetoon one, Sonic is most of the time called قنفوذ which is a play on the Arabic word for hedgehog.
Between every cartoon they were commercials, of course, some of them for products by New Boy, Bonbona, Sweetoon, or other companies, but they were also about some of the cartoons that aired on Spacetoon, here's the AoSTH ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZKQ0qFLy_Q this one is the oldest, It uses the Arabic opening theme with some clips from the cartoon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi8BhNaB5L4 This one is not that old, and it contains the normal theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KodONVtXp-Y This one is interesting, it's from around 2004 and it uses Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes Here's some extras https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCIClWMd1XY this one is the end theme from SatAM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrhh6q0Kt74 This one is from around 2016 and it's used before the start of the Show, and the music used is the same as the other cartoons that aired on Spacetoon at the time
Pierre DeCelles worked on AoStH and Underground (mistakenly labelled SatAM) and posted some concept-arts.
